Default Evans: Bargnani is my all-star

SLAM ONLINE | Reggie Evans: Bargnani Is ‘My All-Star’

Quote:
Reggie Evans had a nice talk with The Score’s Holly MacKenzie about a slew of topics Here are some highlights of what the burly big had to say about Andrea Bargnani:

On the criticism Bargnani receives and whether it’s going to take some time before he gets used to being that franchise player and how he talks to him and reminds him of his talent:

Reggie Evans: “That’s all part of life. That’s all a part of the media being critical or not being critical. One thing you have to understand, media has a job to do. They’ve got to stay, the media’s got to stay hot. They’ve gotta bring a hot topic because if they don’t, they’ve got somebody to replace them. The media’s only doing their job that they’re supposed to do. The only thing he can do is use that at media. To me personally, ‘You’re an All-Star, dawg,’ that’s just what it is. Me personally, I can care less what media say or fans say, I know what I see every day in practice, in the locker room, on the bus, just whatever. I know what I see and I know what he brings to the table. Personally, he’s my franchise player. I’m happy to say it. He’s my All-Star player. I want him to make the All-Star. I need him to make the All-Star. That way I can sit back and watch a Raptor. That feels good. Every year I pretty much had an All-Star on my team, every single year but Philadelphia. I came back here and had Chris. It feels good and why not have the enjoyment of somebody representing your team and be like, hey, even thought he made the All-Star, to know, ,’Hey, I had some input on that,’ No matter if I made a pass, or he passed me the ball, we did a defensive assignment. We helped. We helped out for that individual to get into the All-Star, so it’d be feeling good.”
shit on offense, but he must be a good teammate

I'm imagining him saying all that with his usual bag of marbles in his mouth.

Reggie's been decent the last couple of games. If he could settle into a Rodman type role on this team he'll be a good fit. (Especially on the court with 4 guys that can create offense: Bargs, Kleiza, Barbosa, Jack.)

Probably the most encouraging sign I get from this interview is that Reggie has accepted and embraced his role on the team. As long as he just rebounds, sets picks and screens, makes the safe pass and gets good position on D I'll support him.

That said, every time he takes a jump shot I want him benched.

Reggie is good.

Sorry to say it, but he is. I have been very pleasantly surprised.

The best thing about this is that it shows this team will have somebody to back a teammate up... maybe Reggie should have been our stud PF last year....

IDK what Reggie was trying to do last season, or why the coaches allowed him to call for the ball and act as if he has any offensive talents, but if he can stay true to his talents and play within himself he could be a big role player for us this season

+1. he's actually been one of our most effective players. at least as long as he stays within his role.

when not forcing the issue on offense, he's been passable. He's a veteran and makes veteran plays, but he's severely overmatched physically at the C, and bring nothing beyond a few off. rebounds every game on offense...
he shouldn`t be starting, but on our team he`s effective because we lack defensive leadership

Sensing a lot of sarcasm on this thread... or at-least some one game bias.

He better whack someone hard if they were to dunk on Bargnani and taunt him.

*ahem* Paul Pierce.

Aftar having most plays called for your PF, its inevitable ball gets dumped to him from time to time. Hard to rid yourself from 7 years of Bosh.

I think same think happened with Phoenix and Hakim Warrick

Evans is finally doing what he did for Seattle when he was drafted!

He needs to keep getting rebounds it's what he is good at period!
