Ettore Messina - Raptors Next Head Coach?

Here is some video of Ettore Messina in Toronto back in Octobre as he ran a clinic in the GTA. I don't know if this was posted at the time but, how do you think he would do in Toronto? Do you want him or a more NBA experienced coach here? Because Triano better not be back!

i don't know much about him from personal experience, but from what i've heard here from some of our posters (Claudius and Belsius for example) and what they've said about him, it makes me think he would be a great coach in any league.

Yeah - i'm on the Ettore bandwagon.

cool video by the way.

Although I have no doubts that Messina is a good coach and very knowledgeable guy... coaching in the NBA is a complex beast... coach needs to know how to deal with extremely long schedule, lack of practices, stars on his team and media pressures that are enormous... it's not only about play calls.

Again he is great. Is it a good idea to bring him with out any experience here? Probably not but I myself I think its a risk Im willing to try.

Messina is a workaholic, he demands execution and is a meticulous student of the game.

Whatever team in the NBA eventually gets him is gonna be very happy and lucky.

I have no doubt that Messina knows his X's and O's. He's likely very proficient in the finer points of the game.
The problem in bringing him to Toronto to coach the Raps is this: would he be taken seriously by American players? Rightly or wrongly it may be an issue. How many examples have we seen of established H.O.F. calibre American coaches getting tuned out by arrogant pros. Let alone a relative unknown (among NBA players) European.

Balancing the egos of multi-millionaires is probably the toughest part of an NBA coaches job. If Messina is up to the task and can command the respect of the players by holding them accountable to his systems and ideas, then I'm not opposed to bringing him on.

I would like him here but he has no NBA experience. Maybe bring him as an Assistant first

im on the ettore bandwagon. he knows hiis stuff, and european coaches rule. the only reason no one brought zeljko obradovich this-a-way is cause he hits his players when they fuck up, and chockes them and such. like it or not, when bc makes up his mind about something, he does it, and this, my friends, is a done deal.

BC needs to be decisive and identify the best possible candidate, hire him, then get the hell out of his way.
He's got to turn the squad over to a commanding presence who has a defined vision of how to play the game and the conviction to adhere to it without compromise. If a player doesn't want to play his way, he sits. Period. This team is in desperate need of a taskmaster to take the reigns and say "my way or the highway".
I don't know if Messina is that guy or not.

Oh, Man...are "we" planning on playing in the Russian League next season? Hey, I'm all for globalization, but a number of our "off-continent" players and staff haven't been real successful to date, have they? I'm old fashioned and really believe that an experienced NBA coach just might be a better option.

I think any reasonable player would take seriously any coach who knows what he's doing. and anyways, how is Messina any different from a rookie coach or Jay TRiano for that matter? Triano isn't American.

If the guy is a good coach, players will take him seriously. That's not a concern of mine.

Triano looks like he's being taken seriously by the players? Bad analogy!

Maybe that's what these lazy pussies need... zeljko obradovic to beat them over the head if they don't try hard enough... this town would love him...
