Raptors ESPN: Top 25 under 25

JV ranked 24th, no Demar or Ross.

Exclusive Rumors, Picks, Fantasy Tools, Recruiting and More ESPN Insider - ESPN

Quote:
Elhassan: After a strong finish to his rookie season and a summer league MVP award, Valanciunas has somewhat stagnated in his sophomore year, often looking frustrated with the inability of his teammates to find him. He's a good finisher out pick-and-rolls and has decent footwork in the post, but his shot is flat, giving it little chance to catch favorable bounces.

Thorpe: Solid in a lot of areas, but not yet strong in any. Learning how to fight for better position in the paint is a great place to start. Players his size who consistently bang bodies to get into areas next to the rim get more layups, tips and free throws. In addition, attacking at better angles once he does make a move out of the post will help get to better spots.

Pelton: Valanciunas' slow start has dropped his WARP projection, now second-lowest among this group. His translated Euroleague stats suggest this year's sub-50 percent shooting is a fluke.
Complete list:

Anthony Davis
Paul George
Andre Drummond
James Harden
John Wall
Blake Griffin
Kyrie Irving
Damian Lillard
Demarcus Cousins
Derrick Favours
Eric Bledsoe
Serge Ibaka
Greg Monroe
Kawhi Leonard
MCW
Nic Batum
Harrison Barnes
G. Antetokounmpo
Gordan Hayward
Jrue Holiday
Klay Thompson
Nic Vucevic
Ricky Rubio
Jonas Valanciunas
J. Henson

Wha? How did G. Antetokounmpo make the list but Oladipo didn't?

And yeah.... DD should def. be there rather than JV. Odd.

not sure how they have davis ahead of george while having barnes ahead of valanciunas or henson. Either you judge by potential, in which case barnes should be way lower on that list, or by performance in which case george should be first ...

I think Antetokounmpo is awesome and he will be great player one day, but he is not worth to be on this list just yet, there's no way he is better than DD. JV probobly doesn't deserve to be on this list either

To be clear: This is a ranking of how we would order these players if we were starting a franchise and would have them for the next several years, not just this season. The overall rankings are based on an aggregate average of the individual rankings of our trio of NBA experts.

In order to be eligible for this list, a player must be age 24 or younger as of Dec. 1, 2013. A trio of NBA experts breaks each player down from three perspectives:Amin Elhassan (scout) starts with a straight scouting report on each player.David Thorpe (coach) offers what each player must improve upon.Kevin Pelton (analytics) provides a three-year projection using wins above replacement player (WARP). He formulated his projections using his own system, SCHOENE.

makes sense. Bigs are much harder to come by. Surprised about Giannis, but he looks like he's going to be something special too even if a little too early to tell. And he's like 18.

Even with those stipulations I find it hard to believe that Oladipo wouldn't be on that list.

No Oladipo? That's going to look bad in a year.

Hayward as a SF is a better player to build around and he's harder to replace. As for others, maybe you can make a case for Derozan to replace, but it'd be an argument.

As for Jeff, interesting to see Klay there cause many claim he's just a shooter that is heavily advantaged because of who he plays beside. I don't have a problem with him there, he's a lights out killer.

I'd place Demar somewhere from 15 to 20 , JV and some 5 others should not be on that list

Age played a big factor in DD's exclusion.

I don't know how many players outside the top 10 I would give up JV for. Outside of Klay Thompson.

well said, although I'd even have JV over klay.

note: I am referring to building a franchise, not a who's best now; similar to the list
