Raptors ESPN: Raps should look at Jose for Harris + pick

Quote:
2. The Toronto Raptors trade PG Jose Calderon to the Utah Jazz for PG Devin Harris and a future pick

Why the teams should make this trade: Calderon has had a nice seven-year career with the Raptors, but at 30 he might not be in the team's future. Head coach Dwane Casey is all about defense and Harris would provide an upgrade over Calderon.

On the other hand, Calderon (13.6 ppg, 10.2 apg in the past 10 games) would be tremendous running the Utah offense with big men Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. He is one of the best assist-to-turnover ratio point guards in the NBA, whereas Harris has proven to be a bad fit for the Jazz, averaging just 9.1 ppg and 4.5 apg, the lowest numbers he has had since his early days in Dallas.

if harris doesn't have too many years left, might be worth it, their pick will be decent this year.

when rebuilding its all about picks. like the cavs last year trading mo williams for baron and his horrible contract. but they ended up getting the 1st overall pick with that trade.

I would at least consider this. I don't know if Devin can do what Jose's doing now though...

bingo ...
and harris is a much better player than baron and he might actually be a better fit here short term

long term I wouldn't touch him, he's all about quickness and he's basically losing it fast.

brutal trade for toronto.

period

Better player, Jose by a long shot.

the difference in contracts is 2 million next season. for the production level its a great deal.

And the pnly add in is a future pick?

Maybe for the picks THIS year of Utahs(12th)

had to add, espn say that Jose is a better player better numbers, would be a great fit on utah as well, yet expect the raps to trade him for Harris and a future pick. ridiculous.

Believe it or not, Jose is only 5 months older than Devin. I thought he was 1-2 years older.

It's funny because as recently as last year, the Jazz would not even consider this deal - Devin's been a stud PG for 5 straight years now. However, he's having a really bad season this year, and Earl Watson is playing similar minutes to him (sort of a TJ Ford/Jose Calderon situation).

I would strongly consider this deal if only because of Jose's tendency to get hamstring injuries and Devin's durability. If Jose was healthy, I love his ability to pass the ball and get teammates involved. However, considering the fact that he's had something like 4 hamstring injuries, I think a Jose for Devin + pick trade is a very interesting proposition. It gives us a much better PG defender.

Imagine next year our lineup could be something like Harris/DeRozan/Chandler/Bargnani/Jonas with Bayless, Davis, Johnson, Johnson, Gray, and a high pick off the bench. That's a serviceable young roster with young pieces that can be moved in other deals.

No for me. They don't have a pick to trade. They can't trade this year's pick because they've already traded it. They can't trade next year's pick because this year's pick is protected with a condition that next year's might be traded instead.

All they can trade is the GSW pick, which is top 7 protected, and they look like a very late lottery team. We can get more for Jose.

None of the deals suggested for Jose so far is appealing in the slightest.

One argument is that Calderon is old and will decline?
Harris is only one year younger and is not getting any better.

I would much rather grab a guy like paul george, kyle lowry, chase budinger, roy hibbert, andray blatch along with a first pick. And absorb some other contract for a jose + butler deal lol

if this is 1 trade in a chain of moves to happen in the next season or so and harris is only in as a fill in for a future star PG, then i'm all for this, getting an extra pick and useable in trades is a good thing, and the team isn't going anywhere anyways
as long as harris is not what BC has in mind as our future starting PG

Harris sucks, I would rather keep Calderon and let him play his contract out, UNLESS a deal comes along that completely rocks BC's mind.

With a healthy AB, JV coming over, and Calderon playing at a high level, I see good things happening next year.

If we moved Calderon, in order to make room and a pitch for Steve Nash, then I might consider it.

utah will pick high this year, probably around 10th. In this draft, that's almost guaranteed to net you a better player than jose (unless we botch it).And for 1/5th of the money.
