Default ESPN Future Power Rankings

Quote:
26. Toronto Raptors | Future Power Rating: 402

PLAYERS MANAGEMENT MONEY MARKET DRAFT
94 (28th) 81 (17th) 110 (12th) 47 (16th) 70 (9th)

These are pretty depressing times to be a Raptors fan. Team president Bryan Colangelo miscalculated with the team he put around Chris Bosh, failed to move the power forward when he had the chance last year and then lost him for relatively nothing this offseason. Now Toronto is in worse shape than when Colangelo arrived on the scene in 2006.

Losing Bosh didn't have the same devastating effect that losing LeBron James had on the Cavs, but the Raptors still fell a whopping nine spots in our Future Power Rankings, a drop-off topped only by Cleveland's.

A bolting Bosh wasn't the only factor contributing to Toronto's slide. 2009 free-agent signing Hedo Turkoglu was a major disappointment and was jettisoned to Phoenix after only one season. Meanwhile, the Raptors continue to shop starting point guard Jose Calderon, whom at this point they would be happy to get rid of for salary-cap relief.

Furthermore, the Raptors ate up all their potential cap space by overpaying role players -- in a moment of apparent panic after Bosh's departure, Colangelo inexplicably gave Amir Johnson $34 million. Although the other summer additions, Leandro Barbosa and Linas Kleiza, will contribute, they won't save this sinking ship.

The only good news comes from a couple of young players who appear to have bright futures based on their talent and performances in the 2010 Las Vegas summer league. DeMar DeRozan had a breakout summer and has star ability if he puts it together. Toronto also lucked out when Ed Davis slipped to it at No. 13 in the draft, as he eventually could help fill Bosh's shoes.

Makes sense. This team hasn't proved anything yet, now that Bosh and turkoglu are gone... they can prove themselves.

I was reading that earlier today, I noticed how we're ranked pretty average on every criteria but current roster. It's strange that we're ranked 3rd from the bottom in current roster, and yet only 9th in future draft picks, but all in all, who cares ...

Fact is our mid-term future rests on 3 things:
1. How good can demar/davis/weems and Bargnani can be? All star quality or just average players?
2. What are we going to do with the tpe within the next 12 months
3. How high and how well can we draft in the next 2 seasons.

Our current roster is full if unknowns, so I can understand our ranking. However, there's a decent chance our young players will open many eyes this upcoming season.

The one good thing about it is that the only way is up, so at the very least we will have a season of beating expectations, for a change

I really hate if we had of traded Bosh before the trading deadline!
If the Raptors traded him before the dealine what would we have gotten?
Not much if the trades of unloading the Washington players are any indication.
Plus any team that took Bosh would have worried about retaining him since he could opt out.
So that is total BS.

We got basically fair value for Bosh and we didn't take on any scrubs from other teams.
Rather have the picks and TPE

If you look at the current Raptors
PG is an upgrade from last year by the simple addition of Barbosa.
SG again will be a upgrade Weems and DD should both improve and Barbosa solid Beli is Beli
SF is addition by subtraction Klieza can't possibly play worse than Turk and hopefully improvement of Weems.
C better Bargs will get more touches and Anderson is better than Rasho, Albai is a project.
PF obviously a downgrade but feel that Amir will step up, Davis looks as a solid future starter, Dorsey is a beast. Evans is Evans splinters at end of bench.

I thought this was a futures power ranking

all players 25 or under

Derozan
Sonny
Belinelli
Kleiza
Alabi
Davis
Bargnani
Amir

in between vets and young player

Jack
Calderon

Chicago would have given up Johnson but they never would have given up Noah. What did the Jazz get for Boozer....TPE.
So we would have got Johnson & TPE from Chicago.
Rather have the draft picks and TPE

how are we not a top 10 team in Futures Power Rankings

just thinking about it in a ESPN perspective,

we already have a top 10 young team with guys like Rasho, and Turk leaving, and youth added with our draft picks brings down the overall roster age, plus the current roster is already young so that right there makes us a good futures team right away

plus the fact that in power ranking and worst team ranking, where usually in the top 3 or top 5 depending on who is doing the ranking, NBA website, ESPN, Fox Sports whatever

which means we'll get another high lottery pick, doesn't this help in there future rankings

oh well who cares anyways all it takes for one player to develop into a great player, or instantly hit a guy in the lottery that changes a team,

we have the vehicle, all the parts you need to be a good team we just need a real motor, not no hybrid engine by the name of chris Bosh driving the franchise

We may be better than 8 teams in the East depends on the final line-up

or not..... depending on the final line up.

I don't have a lot of expectations for next year's team. It's essentially step one in a weird makeshift rebuild a la Colangelo. We'll see what we get (with the kids getting more responsibility), but if last year was any indication i wouldn't get my hopes up too high.
