Raptors ESPN: Ed Davis could be the steal of the lottery

Quote:
8. Ed Davis, Raptors
Fields may be the steal of the draft, but Davis might end up being the steal of the lottery. His 17-point, 12-rebound, 3-block, 3-steal performance in Dallas on Dec. 28 is one of the gems of this class thus far. I don't care that Dirk Nowitzki didn't play; Toronto was missing lots of regulars, too.

Which brings me to this: Davis has to be playing a lot for this team because he's showing that he might be a strong scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker. Although he might not end up being strong in any of those categories, the idea that he could be strong in any or all three areas is an exciting development for Raptors fans, especially considering Toronto nabbed him late in the lottery. And remember, he's months behind his fellow rookies in terms of his development because of his leg injury.

I hope they're not basing this on one game. He's shown flashes but it's way too early to be throwing out labels like 'steal of the lottery'.

I'd like to see him get more touches in the post. Even if he hits all backboard at least he's getting reps.

Exactly. His biggest issue so far, and understandably so, has been inconsistency. Let's wait until he has the rest of the season under his belt (hopefully, uninterrupted by injuries) before bestowing any honors upon him.

Based on what I've seen Davis has a chance to be a really solid player. I'm thinking Antonio Davis with less strength but more of a shot blocking presence. Relation?

Please no fumbling and stumbling through the lane like AD used to.... I see more JO than AD though.

i think ed will be starting for us before the end of the season if he keeps up his level of play in limited minutes off the bench...

We need him in our future of this team.

P.S. I loved the heart that Bayless played with last night.

Bargnani- 34mpg, 5.6rpg, .8 Blks (7ft 250lbs)

Davis- 20mpg, 5.8rpg, .8 Blks (6'10 222lbs)

When he adds 20lbs look out, he'll be a beast.

He's not going to show that much on offense due to all the time he's missed. I would hope that he gets a chance to show something as the season wears on. What's really exciting is what he's shown on his instincts alone. He plays defense a half step ahead of the play. Very fluid and natural. I recommend keeping your eye exclusively on him if you're finding Raptors games boring. He's showing stuff that has been missing for a long time in Toronto. Now if only he could get to show that for a bit more than 20 minutes.

ed davis is going to be the best of all time. easily.

Demarr is the next Kobe

and Ed is a hybrid althrough entirely better than Hakeem/JO/Davis/Chamberland/Jabbar

I'm still super excited for this guy.

He gets after it, has a very nice/crafty post game and you can tell he's a basketball player. Not an athlete. Not a big body. A real basketball player.

If he starts hitting the gym hard, he might fit into this puzzle better then we all thought.

all i want him to do is become stronger in size to battle for more minutes, with that hopefully also comes a better understanding of the defensive/offensive rotations

and i just want him to be able to develop a jump shot, at the FT line and a mid-range, maybe a few post moves or even just a typical 1 hand hook going either way, i don't think that's asking too much in terms of actual skill development

It was a easy selection for the Raptors. He is the guy I prayed would fall because of his injuries. Top 5 talent. When he kept falling I kept praying no one would take him till Raptors pick got up there.

Off to a good start after missing a lot of BB the past year and a half. He is only going to get better. Steal of the draft.
