Default ESPN: EC Summer Prediction for 2008-2009 Season

I guess 6th overall in the East is fair. They're predicting we'll have a 45 win season. What do you guys think?

Philly getting ranked so high is really starting to piss me off...
No outside shooting at all and they have alot of young'uns that relly need to grow and mature (AI, Lou, etc.)

Ratlif is as old as fuck, so is Miller.
Brand and AI dont fit well together.

Breaking it down...

Half broken JO is =/> Sammy
Bosh>Brand
Moon/Kaps<AI
AP =/> Lou
Jose>Miller

same here it pisses me off to. They only get ranked higher because of Brand. There is no other reason to it

Philly doesn't have a bunch of players that developed outside of the US system. If you're an expert well-versed in players who developed in the US, then that's where you're going to throw the hype.

I completely agree, except for on Bosh being better than Brand. They are closer to being equal. Also, who says that Jermaine is half broken? He has been working hard to return to 100%, and I think that playing for us could be that last push that he needs to return to All-Star form. Of course, it could just blow up in our faces, but I'm trying not to think about that. Back to my point, we have better shooting, a better five, and a better point guard. I am just waiting for people to realize that Andre Miller is 32 and he isn't going to get better, unlike Jose, as I am sick of people who over hype veterans that have started for most of their career and then have a big year near the end, as Miller did last year. He is on the decline from here on out, as '07-'08 was his "last hurrah" so to speak. So please people, get off of the Miller train while he still looks good.

It's really simple to me, JO comes back with 70% of the production he had as an allstar and we can win 50 games, 50% (which i guess is what they mean by half broken, they think he will get half the numbers he used to) we will be like 40-45 jmo

somewhy I am sure its not Boston or Detroit who will win most games in East this season. Both teams are a year older and no fresh blood.

Guys he's in his fucking prime, give him a break. He just took half a year off to rehab and won't be scoring 12..It'll be up.. Give him a break. He's fully healed and will do better than he ever did.(Disregard stats)
He's no VC, no Grant Hill, no question mark of a star..
Also at Ugo, he did better than that crap on 1 leg..On 2, I think he'll be able to double it. Not necessarily 24 and 12 but better.

AI>Kapono/Moon.. They can't be combined in 1 position therefore 1on1 AI is better.
Philly---.50 team.
Bosh>Brand.

so basically we're 5 games from 2nd place. Usually we get 3-5 more wins that espn predicts, so that puts us at a more realistic 48-50 wins for the season, which means that if we get a little lucky, we could have #2.

So high? They put them 2 wins ahead of us.I think that the 4-5-6 spots are very close and i think Phily,Raps,Washington have the opportunity to get as many as 48 wins and it's a toss up.Philly will be very good, don't kid yourself.

while that's true - objectively speaking, we have a more complete team than they do. They have some very obvious holes, especially at sg and 3pt shooting. Our only weakness is depth at PG and not a bona fide SF. However, I will take Moon at SF over Willie Green at SG anytime ...

Furthermore, we are a proven team by now, which has addressed its biggest weaknesses in the offseason (rebounding and defense). The 76ers actually had excelent play at PF from young, a major factor of their improved play at the end of the season. Brand will be a significant upgrade, but that kind of leaves Young in the dust, his minutes will drop dramatically and he will probably share backup duties for brand and for AI. I don't even know who their backup sg is, and finally, andre miller is kind of old.

So I can see a lot more question marks when it comes to philly and frankly, I would put them behind even whasington. Can they be very good? Sure - but so can we and the wizards. If you want to take the middle of the road approach, you can't put the cavs, orlando and 76ers ahead of toronto.

If things go well in a couple of areas, we could be very very good because we are a pretty complete team. All it takes is a bit of luck with JO and Calderon to stay healthy, and for Moon to make at least a small improvement over last year and we'll be #1 in the east.

Just think about it for a moment, we have:
#2 PF in the east (after garnett)
#2 C in the east (after howard - and that's questionable)
#2 pg in the east (after billups)
#1 3pt shooter in the league

complemented by a solid defensive oriented with great 3pt shooting in Parker, and a couple of prospects with great upside in Bargnani and Moon.
Even after these 7, we have some decent quality with KH and Roko and maybe Solomon.

We have experienced players, we have winners (bosh, parker, calderon, o'neal, kapono) and we have good depth at all positions but pg.

Nah, I think they put Philly in the right spot. In fact I wouldn't even be too surprised if they ranked them 4th. The one thing im not sure about is the Chicage-Miami race for 8th. I mean Chicago wasn't too bad last season...so with the addition of Rose they should be able to squeeze into the playoffs this year. I don't think Beasley is going to make that much of a difference to go from last to about 16th in the league.

it's not about beasley, it's about wade, who seems to be back to his mvp form ... if beasley is even half ok, there's no way they don't get close to .500. Of course, if wade goes down again, they're in horrible shape.

as for philly, why do you think they will be that good?

Yeah Philly is still a question mark for me too, but you cant really deny that theyll be a very good defensive team with 4 very solid defenders in the lineup. I just doubt their halfcourt offence which may be their undoing come playoff time. Iggy and Brand are a nice duo but they wont look so nice with 2 guys sagging on them every trip down because Miller and Young cant shoot outside of 15 feet to spread the court.

I still don't understand how people can't respect what Philly did last year, and has done this offseason. They made a crazy post-allstar-break surge, pushed the second seed in the East to the limit, and proceeded to pick up a perennial all star and 20 / 10 guy in Elton Brand. If all the contract stuff works out with Andre Iguodala, there's no doubt in my mind that this team challenges the Celtics in the East.
