Raptors ESPN.com: First-half breakouts, second-half threats (Raptors content)

Even though it's related to fantasy ball, Amir gets some props as a possibe second-half threat.

Quote:
Amir Johnson, PF, Toronto Raptors: It took him half a season, but Johnson is finally starting to bring a little consistency to his game. He's not quite the player that his per-minute numbers suggested he might be, but the 23-year-old still has a ton of upside and is averaging 10.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.2 blocks in his past five games.

Amir is a beast. Hard working and ton of heart.
Always love seeing him with the ball near the net., You knowhe will finish. And he has a decent Free thow as well.
He just needs to get more love from the refs when he gets hacked.

He's young and full of potential... If he can stay healthy and out of foul trouble he can be a consistent 12/8 guy.
I love Amir because he does the blue collar work and doesn't need the ball to be effective. In a few years, he'll turn out to be our Antonio Davis/Oakley.

I'd have to day Amir is one of a kind, I really can't think of a player past or present that plays like him...

Amir is not as physically strong as Thomas and not nearly as tall as Willis (who was also an all-star during his prime). On the positive side for Amir, neither of those guys could grab a defensive rebound and go end to end for a layup, the way Amir did against the Hornets yesterday.

Amir does use a semi-hook the way Willis occasionally did. And he is developing a decent set-shot like Thomas. I can see it once in a while, I guess.

It really is kind of hard to compare him to somebody. He's not good enough to be compared to some of the more mobile PFs, like Josh Smith, but he's not a significant enough defensive presence to be compared to certain centers.
That's just my opinion, though.

I do like his value more and more. His contract doesn't look so bad now, even if he is coming off the bench and playing behind Davis in 2 years.

to build on what insider posted, he actually reminds me a bit of a young antonio davis. thinner and more athletic, but not too far off. he needs to get bigger and smarter, but he's already developing that mid-range shot. this is by no means a guarantee that he will turn out like ad, but it is quite possible. he'll need someone to get him to focus.
