But after nearly being paralyzed and then fighting - both mentally and physically - for more than 2 months to get back on the floor, heís suddenly public enemy number 1 in Toronto?

I donít get it.

Clearly Ford didnít look good as a back-up and his attitude - self-imposed or not - didnít seem great at the best of times. But Iím not going to write the guy off and start publicly hammering the guy for what has happened in the last 4-6 weeks.

I like Jose Calderon. I believe Jose Calderon is more likely to be the starting PG of the Toronto Raptors in the future. But as long as both point guards are playing for the Raps, I think their differing styles are an asset for Sam Mitchell to expose.

Why many folks have suddenly drawn a line in the sand with Ford and Calderon is beyond me. This is playing out like the ridiculous notion that seems to exist in Toronto Ö in that you canít like hockey if you like basketball Ö and vice-versa. Now it seems like you canít like Jose if you like TJ Ö and vice-versa.

I donít get it.

I don't get it either.

While Ford WAS really pissing me off in that horrendous stretch with Bosh out, I never wanted to completely write him off.

I'm still a fan of the guy, and am relieved that he has seemed to find his game once more.

Awesome article.

Thank you Eric.

Jose is our future and I understand that we are better with Ford starting because Ford can't and won't play well when coming off the bench.

Ford is a bitch.

Ford is not a good team player.

Ford needed to be coddled just to get him to play responsibly on the court.

So, Fuck you Eric Smith you little ass kisser.

Don't mock us fans and question our angst, we aren't retarded.

If last year credit was going to be given to Tj, then it seem that we are thinking on the same way as he does, that's totally wrong, but if you have a minimum understanding of basketball you will agree that is a team effort not a single guy showcase, and when Tj was knocked down and we put Jose to the test we watched a great player showcase PLUS how he was able to bring every single player on the roster to their maximums levels to the point that it was fun and addictive to play for them and for us to watch.
So in this universe to an action there is a reaction, the goal for the team is to improve, getting better in every play, in every game, this is call evolution, with Tj back and his lack of understanding of the new roles, and the full showcase of ego on and off the court create the perfect ingredients to start going in the opposite path of evolution, so the question is where the hell we want to go????????
For instance look Rasho he doesn't give a flying f..k either to start or not, to play 1 or 40 minutes, the only thing that he cares is about winning, when you find a group as a whole group thinking the same way, only at that point you can quest anything, whether you get it or not at least you tried your best. And as today isn't happening in TORONTO.

many people doubted TJ's character before the injury. Some always suspected he only cares about himself and doesn't give a shit about the team. The past two months have proved to those people that they suspicions were right.

Regardless of how good he is, I don't want a guy like TJ in our team. And he's not that good either, but that's up for debate. His character isn't anymore, only a few hardcore supporters still dare to defend him - and that's why he has to go. Everytime he has a bad night, he will get booed - after a while it will get tiring for everybody.

I wouldn't say TJ was the best player in the beginning of the season. I always considered Jose better in the PG role, but that's besides the point.

I wouldn't say TJ was *the* "catalyst" that made us get the Division title last year. It was definitely a team effort. If anything ... I would say Garbajosa was very much a "key" part of that accomplishment as TJ (or anybody else) was.

Clearly, the Raps are missing Garbo's contribution this year.

I've been watching Jose play since he was at Tau Ceramica and I've been a huge fan of his since day one. I thought we already had our starter and I didn't think the trade for TJ was even necessary.

That being said, focusing all of my energy on how TJ is cancerous, selfish, is like a leopard peeing on people...blah, blah, blah, is useless and no amount of whining and updates at the end of every quarter on who's got a better +/- is going to change the fact that he's here until at least the offseason.

So as long as he's got a Raptors jersey on I will cheer for the little, misguided guy to do well and figure things out instead of unfairly criticizing and scrutinizing every single fucking thing he does.

Major 03-31-2008 07:27 PM

Well said Eric. I've always, always liked TJ so I can't agrue about anything here.

raptor123 03-31-2008 07:41 PM

Totally agree as stated above but check out this article which supports my view on TJ.
