Jawai was battling through his nagging groin injury but in the minutes he played he did show some flashes. Considering this guy has only been playing ball for about 5 years Ö his foot work and hands are good. Heís got those fundamentals down. Heíll have to work on his touch around the hoop, but Iím sure thatíll come in time with the coaching and attention from Herbert and others as well.
Some interesting information about Jawai and Adams :)

I think the Raptors bench has the potential to be a lot better than most are anticipating.

Bargnani
Jawai
Moon
Adams
Ukic

I think Bargnani will bounce back to at least his rookie level now that he's finally healthy. Adams and Ukic should be on everyone's sleeper alert.

I like the bench and if JAwai and Ukic develop and can play good the raps have a good bench

'trane 07-26-2008 08:10 AM

moon is a starter, no? and lots of question marks on that bench...

Major 07-26-2008 08:39 AM

I doubt that he will contribute much to the Raptors. He is NOT better than HUMP. He doesn't have the basketball smarts or experience to play a real role yet. I see him getting 5 to 8 minutes per game to the MAX. He is not the answer for us as a back up. I'd much rather have a vet than a completely raw young player like Pape who will work his ass off but KILL you on the defensive end and turnovers.

I hope I'm wrong. The season is still a LONG way away and there are many moves still to be made.

Gurk 07-26-2008 08:48 AM

Yea true Jawai isnt ready enough to contribute and thats also one reason he didnt make the olympic team of Australia but if he does contribute that is a bonus

expecting alot from Jawai is likely a mistake, hopefully Ukic will be serviceable his 1st year, that would be a nice boost ;)

Bargnani hopefully steps up
Jawai is probably not a contributor
Moon is probably starting
Adams is probably just an energy end of the bench guy
ukic will be mvp

Bargnani, and Ukic have the potential to be very solid off the bench, i think Adams is going to struggle at times, high energy, kind of a tony allen guy, meaning good D but little O...he aint going to push parker for a starting role like alot of people were saying...just look at vegas.

Jawai is a right off, this year how is he going to get ANY minutes? The raps are going to use a frontcourt rotation of Bosh O'neil and Bargs, and throw in Hump whenever hes needed, Jawai is here to learn in practice, to play everyday against CB, and JO.

Overall if bargnani can get that shooting percentage to where it needs to be (45% at least) and put in around 12-14ppg, and ukic is effective, Kapono plays more like he did in the playoffs than the season, this bench will be strong...hopefully BC will round it off with Eddie House...imagine Kapono and house, the two quickest releases in the NBA jacking up those 3s

Is that what your crystal ball told you? The potential and size are already there for Jawai, I think it comes down to conditioning for him. He went into camp badly out of shape and as Eric already alluded too, playing with a injury. Knowing already that we have two injury prone big men in Bosh and O'Neal, I don't think its fair to say Nathan is going to be a write off. At least not yet.

Gurk 07-26-2008 10:11 AM

Hopefully he isnt and can be a X-Factor but i dont think it will happen in his first year

Major 07-26-2008 10:13 AM

Gurk 07-26-2008 10:14 AM

And you're basing Moon being a starter solely on last year's regular season? Things have changed. Mitchell finally can use Kapono like he was used in his final season with the Heat; meaning finally teams won't be able to stick a man on him at all times when he's playing with Jermaine and Chris. To not have Kapono starting would be wasting his incredibly awesome, yet very narrow range of skills. Bottom line, this year Kapono offers the Raptors a better look at the three than Moon. Shit, the playoffs should have been a foreshadow to this truth.
