Default Eric Smith: No Regrets From JO

Good news is that Jermaine doesn't regret choosing Toronto over Cleveland this past summer. The better news: Bargnani won't be guarding LeBron tonight. That will apparently be Parker's job.

Thus, it’ll be Chris Bosh, Jermaine O’Neal, Andrea Bargnani, Anthony Parker, and Jose Calderon again. AP will draw the assignment of trying to slow down (note: not “shut down” (nobody can or will do that)) LeBron James.

NO REGRETS

I also had a chance to speak with Jermaine O’Neal. If you’ll recall … J.O. told us back in the summer that he was really picking between a couple of teams when push came to shove: Cleveland or Toronto.

The Raps have struggled … while Cleveland is right on the heels of the Boston Celtics for the top record in the East.

But O’Neal said he has no regrets about coming to Toronto. He still likes the core better in Toronto and thinks there is still a ton of time for the Raptors to turn it around. He stressed that it’s not time to panic - that there’s still 75% of the season to go!

O’Neal also said he wasn’t sure if he would have been a good fit in Cleveland given that Zydrunas Ilgauskas was still going to be a Cav. So that may be new info: Whatever trade Cleveland was trying to work out with Indy, did NOT include Big Z.

He doesn't want to change the rotation, except for switching back and forth between Ukic and Solomon every other game?

Exactly. Why are we cursed with the coaches who are too stubborn to admit their own mistakes?!

I think Bargs has to come off the bench. We've got three bigs and starting all of them against the Cavs means Varajuo is gonna have another 15+ boards against us.

I can't see JO saying anything else, gotta maintain class and respect the people signing his cheques. Either way I think tonight will be downright ugly

bargs will probably guard the PF as Bosh is quicker and can guard the smaller
at the same time you can ask the opposite, who on the cavs will guard bargs? lebron??? his D is possibly just as bad as bargs

I knew SJ would be the one guy who agrees with me on this one.

The thing is, if Bargs sucks, like everyone expects him to against Lebron, you can make the switch two minutes into the game, and it won't change your defensive gameplan.

If Bargs performs well against Lebron, it's a huge confidence builder.

And nobody is going to stop Lebron, so why not give it a shot. How many 7 footers have guarded Lebron in the league, it gives him something out of the ordinary to go against, and might turn him into a jumpshooter.

So true, except for the part of him grabbing 7 boards, 2 steals and 1 block a game and often making a big contribution on D, ive watched most Cav games this year and D is his biggest improvement.

Oooo let me add his help D has been great this year aswell.

If I was going up against the Cavs, and I had to pick someone to guard me, I would take MoWill,Delonte,Z, pretty much anyone except Lebron.

He's the king on defense as well as offense.

I really think he made it a goal this year, after watching Kobe he commented on how great it is to be the go to guy and defend the best player on the other team most nights, he isnt at that Kobe level yet, but im pretty sure by sheer will power and talent, he will get there if he wants.

those stats don't necessarily mean he plays good D, getting a lot of steals can mean that he cheats a lot on D and the 1 block doesn't mean much and can also mean that he leaves his man to do it

Like i said, and some ppl here know, i have an affinity for LeBron, the Cav's (until he leaves) and the Hawks, i watch most of their games, LeBron can D up, plain and simple, perhaps tonights demonstration changes some opinions abit? He is a menace on D, and Bargs wasnt thinking of going inside on him.
