MORE FROM THE PAST

Vince Carter, Antonio Davis, and Chris Bosh have become All Stars while wearing the Raptors uniform. But Jermaine O’Neal isn’t the only former All Star to join this team.

Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Willis, and Charles Oakley were past NBA All-Stars … before they came to play in a Toronto.

Willis and Oakley made their Raptors debuts during the strike-shortened 1998 season.

Willis, an All Star in 1992, scored a team-high 28 points (against Boston (1999)) in his debut with the Raptors. In that same game, Oakley, an All Star in 1993, tallied 4 points and 9 rebounds.

Olajuwon, a 12-time All Star, scored 11 points during his Raptors debut in Orlando (2001).

We’ll see how Jermaine O’Neal fairs tomorrow night in his Raptor debut … against Philly.

2001 and in 1999, I had such huge hopes for the team.

I can't believe Jelani McCoy was a starter on one of our opening nights.

I think that opening night he looked pretty good too. And then it kinda went downhill from there.

He did look great ... I vaguely remember the game but I do recall Raptor fans being all excited about the prospects. Then a year or so later Loren Woods did the same thing and opened up the season with a 18 point and 10 boards performance. Everyone jumped on board the Woods-wagon then too.

Ah the memories. I remember a guy behind me almost getting booted out of the ACC later that year, for shouting "Loren you're a fucking pylon!" When he was warned about his outburst, presumably the "fucking" part in particular, he goes "what? - he IS a fucking pylon".
