Eric Smith Doesn't Think Bosh Is Here Long-Term

Here's why :reporter:

Because McLean asked for a “yes” or a “no” … I gave it to him. My answer …

“No.”

Now let me use this blog to explain my answer.

Doug asked for a one-word answer. But had I been allowed to give a bit of a qualifier … this what I would have said …

I still don’t think Bosh is going to be moved this summer. I think Bryan Colangelo will keep the 4-time All Star in Toronto. In fact, I still think CB4 will sign a max contract with this team when he’s a free agent in the summer of 2010.

However, a year or two into that deal … if the Raptors still haven’t done anything / gone anywhere in the post-season (i.e. - Conference Finals? NBA Finals?) … then I think he will quietly ask to be moved (much like Vince Carter did) … and the Raps will accommodate his wishes and get the best package they can for him at that time.

The only way I see that scenario NOT going down … is if Colangelo gets a commitment from Bosh THIS summer. The GM will ask the player if he’s thinking about staying or thinking about going. If Bosh says he’s leaving - or even hints at that fact that he might go - then, clearly, a move has to be made.

So, this issue here is McLean’s definition of “long-term” versus my definition (and your definition while reading this) of that same term. No … I don’t think Bosh is here “long-term” - unless Toronto wins. Why would he or any other player want to stay with a team that is stuck in neutral? But conversely, why would he or any other player want to move from a team if the club is moving forward and competing as a top 3-4 team year after year?

I’ve said it before … and I’ll say it again: Winning cures all.

Bosh wants to get paid but Bosh wants to win as well. Thus, “short-term”, I think he IS a Raptor but “long-term” … it’s up to Bosh, the players around him, and the organization itself. You’ve got to win. Period.

meh, fence sitter...

Yeah, that was surprisingly weak.

I'll be very surprised if Chris Bosh is still a part of the Raptors organization next training camp!

Ligeia 02-23-2009 05:01 PM

Pretty poor backing of the argument. It is almost a given for a player to change teams at least once in their career, and I don't think that's what the question was asking at all.

LOL He is a better Flip Flopper than Varajeo :cheers2:

zachus 02-23-2009 05:03 PM

Well that was a whole 'lotta nothing...

No way does Chris Bosh sign a max deal and then decide to be moved two years later. If he signs, I say he stays for the duration. If he even starts to think that he'll go through the same stuff he did before 2010, he won't come back.

But as most people here agree, I don't see Chris Bosh staying here until 2010.

its simple.have we heard chris say"i plan on being a life long raptor".NO.have we heard chris say"im here through thick n thin and if they trade me thats their business"NO...................chris's silence speaks volumes and remember we can offer him the most cash so youd think he'd be campaigning for a long term max deal.BUT HE ISNT...........folks,chris is gone.

Raptorman 02-23-2009 06:08 PM

By that description, CB4 would have played here 8-9 years....sounds long term to me.

raptor86 02-23-2009 06:11 PM

Chris Bosh isn't, hasn't and never will be a franchise player. He was only made out to be one because Vince Carter left.

I think Bryan is still trying to build around CB4. Like Eric said the only way he will trade him if Bosh says he is not going to sign. CB4 is smart, I think he will sign the contract with Raps, (Who would leave close to 30 million) and if the things don't go too well, will ask to be traded.

"Do you believe you will be a Maverick for life?"

"Mark knows I want to be," Nowitzki said of owner Mark Cuban. "That’s all we’ve talked about for the last couple of years. I’d love to stay here but I think we made it pretty clear that this franchise wants to win a championship. So at some point, if you can’t reach your goal, changes come with that. I understand the business.

"We’ve been trying for a lot of years now. If we lose in the first round again this year or next year, who knows what can happen? But I’d love to end my career here."

HAVE WE EVER HEARD CHRIS SAY THIS?.....nope,never.

You never hear Lebron or Wade say that either. Dirk is 30, and he has played with the Mavericks his whole career, so he feels comfortable there.
