If Casey, a guy who has a championship ring on his finger and knows what it takes to win a championship benches Bayless and starts Demar, he has my full support. He obviously sees something you don't.

i have no problem about JB's burst in last few games...however i do have problems with all the other players right now.

who is really a keeper after this season...can someone tell me right now?do we really have a consistent player that we can rely on going forward?

let's breakdown all the "keeper" that we assumed when season start

DD-the most inconsistent player for all season whom became non-factor for team's record, is he a 20+ scorer...yes;is he a Winning factor...no,IMO his score has been no contribution towards team's win or lose.

AB-after coming back from injury he has been turned into his old form...a low efficiency scorer with limited defensive effort,i even don't want to compare his stats vs pre-injury...i really feel shame about him right now!

JJ- the most surprised player in Raptors this year...did he went on vacation in last 6 games, somebody tell me...another inconsistent example that i don't want talk about

no it's up to JB and i don't know how long he can keep up his "consistent"...God knows!!!

Calderon is the better pure point guard, but Bayless is looking more and more like the better game changer with each passing contest. I’ve really liked Jose’s play this season, and I was one of the fans who thought he shouldn’t be traded unless the Raptors could get a first round pick or intriguing young asset back in return. But as we’re all painfully aware, this season is about development and seeing what we have in our younger players.

If you ask me, I’d like to see what Jerryd Bayless can do as a starter this week against Jeremy Lin and Derrick Rose. That’s not a knock on Jose, but rather a sign of his movement over the last four years from the loveable underdog in a point guard battle to the steady old guard.
Calderon to Start, What About J-Bay? | RaptorBlog | Blogs | theScore.com

Calderon has had a fine year, one of the best of his career, but he is one of the oldest players on the roster, has only a year remaining on his contract and was already almost traded once by general manager Bryan Colangelo.

What Calderon is and is not is clear at this point. Colangelo knows what he has and knows if he will keep him long-term or not.

Bayless’ status is far less cut-and-dried. He will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Bayless’ standout play has caused Calderon to perhaps speed up his return from an ankle injury — “With the way Jerryd’s playing, I would hurry up and get back too,” joked head coach Dwane Casey.

jeff - the proper yoda grammar would be "pretty good he is, hmm? but special he is not"

Bayless hot, but Calderon starts | Basketball | Sports | Toronto Sun
Quote:
Injuries forced Jerryd Bayless out of both earlier meetings this season, but he’s back, and playing tremendously for the Raptors as the starting point guard.

“Jerryd has been playing real well, not only offensively but defensively,” Casey said.

Still, long-time starter Jose Calderon said his sore ankle was feeling better and he expected to play against the Knicks. Calderon has tended to get the most out of Andrea Bargnani, one of the major factors in why the team currently prefers to start him.

Casey said Calderon would return to the first group, though he planned to use both Calderon and Bayless at the same time in order to keep Bayless’ minutes up.

Though he will grin and bear a return to the bench, it is clearly not an ideal situation for Bayless, who has posted markedly improved numbers over his career as a starter versus a reserve.

...

In about 7.5 fewer minutes per game off of the bench, Bayless has posted 9.3 fewer points, 2.2 fewer assists and shot 39%, compared to 45% he has managed as a starter — including a ridiculous 54.3% clip over his past five starts.

While the thinking has long been that Bayless might best be served as a high-scoring combo guard, like the recently traded Leandro Barbosa, he doesn’t seem overly interested in that role.

He recently reaffirmed that he saw himself as a point guard— meaning a distributor as well as a scorer — and on Monday advocated Gary Forbes as a better fit for the Barbosa role. Forbes scored a career-best 20 points two games ago.

“That’s going to be moreso Gary,” Bayless said of the combo scoring guard slot in the lineup. “Gary did a great job for us. Showed us what he can do.”

Bayless has shown what he can do as well.

The question with Calderon’s impending return, is will that continue to be the case?

i like when bayless gets his own shot, he seem to know how to set himself a high percentage play but he has no clue on how to get guys easier shots,

he reminds of mike james, when things go bad for bayless he passes it off to a player who has no option, a low percentage play

he seems mroe concerned about geting his offense off then his teammates

i don't see how you can win with a guy like this,

just look at deron williams he knows how to score but also knows how to make the right play and set his teammates up with easy baskets

bayless is straight out of the jalen rose playbook, says the right things but his actions on the court are different
