Raptors Ed Stefanski on Lowry/Jose

Quote:
Toronto Raptors Executive Vice-President of Basketball Operations Ed Stefanski said he has no idea how things will play out with regards to the Jose Calderon vs. Kyle Lowry situation.

“It’s going to play itself out eventually, how it plays itself out, we don’t know yet,” Stefanski said on the Jeff Blair Show on Sportsnet 590 the Fan.

“Right now I would have to say it’s a nice problem -- especially (with) getting Kyle healthy and we saw Tuesday night what Kyle can do when he’s aggressive and we have to have that,” said Stefanski who serves as Bryan Colangelo's right-had man with the Raptors.

Stefanski said Calderon’s play has earned plenty of praise around the league.

“Where people are talking about Calderon now, a lot of teams in the league love the way he’s playing basketball,” he explained.

But part of the reason the Raptors made the trade for Lowry was because the 31-year-old Calderon is in the final year of his contract.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how this goes but your right, Calderon is in his last year of his contract so something has to give,” Stefanski said.

On a side note. Stefanski said on the fan590 that as of friday It'll be 5 weeks since JV injury and he'll have another x ray. Hopefully he can start practicing with the team.

To be honest, I don't think there was ever a doubt. Sure Calderon was playing good but they know they have to look to the future, and right now Calderon is a valuable trade asset. Its only a matter of time before he gets traded in my mind.

I think right now it works out best. Jose is the more stable and defers scoring to other players on the floor. In starting unit it makes sense. And Lowry is your threat off the bench.
I used to think Jose is the better option to come off the bench, but he seems to have found another gear in his contract year. Utilize it but be wary of overrating him.

Shame that the injury is keeping him out closer to the 6-week prediction. Bigs have been killing us, and having JV out there would certainly help out, even if all he does is limit Gray's minutes on the floor. Let's hope the time off has allowed him to catch his breath and he can come back in good form.

Stefanski's words make it seem like Jose's halfway out the door already.

However when Calderon is traded the new PG would have to keep his head low and not be better or equal to Lowry, to keep the latter happy.

Honestly, why do people on here get all militant and act like there is a debate. The moment Lowry was acquired Calderon was getting traded. EVERYTHING that has happened this year makes sense. Lowry got hurt. He also played like a donkey a few times and needed a talking to. At no point should anyone on here have thought things had changed though.

Calderon is better than Lowry when Lowry can't walk or has a torn arm. Calderon is also playing well, and its of great benefit for him to be a good contributor while he is on the trading block.

So if he sits a lot of the games you dolts bitch and moan and say he should sit, when he gets traded for a rack of balls, don't be surprised. However, if he plays, and continues to make everyone in the league love what he does, and then gets lumped into a package that brings back a high quality player, well then don't you dare open your dirty little Jackal mouths, you won't have earned the right to.

Patience is a virtue Boys, try exercising some.
