I heard Monroe relies a little too much on his jumpshot and is scared to bang down low with other PF's. Davis quite the opposite.

To be honest, I barely see Favors play, but it's not easy to think a 13th pick will turn out better than a 4th. But players like Mr. Bryant can prove me wrong.

Bryant was a highschooler... it's a little iffy to compare Davis to Bryant in that regard.

I've seen Monroe, and naturally, he looks better than Davis at times, as does Davis versus Monroe. I don't think anyone can categorically claim one is better than the other going forward. I haven't seen Favors much, but he was expected to have a bigger year than he did out of the gate, while both Monroe and Davis surpassed most expectations.

After his freshman year at UNC, Davis was projected to be a top 3 pick. He wasnt that impressive in his sophomore year. I don't think he was that impressive during his rookie year either.

Let's be honest... he came off the bench minutes on a 22 win team. He seemed winded after 8 minutes of play (against opposing bench players). He tried to swat shots instead of altering shots. He picked up dumb fouls (rookie, so be it... look at Amir). His strength was def rebounding.

Considering this guy was on a NCAA championship team at UNC I expected bigger things. His dad was a pro too. He played okay but wasn't good for a rookie. I can't predict potential but he's not better then the players listed in the initial post. Who knows if he can be better then some of them at the height of his career. It seems like hometown bias at work. Solid pick up at 13 but who knows about what he brings in the future. Dude needs to play with more emotion. Its not the Charles Oakley, no bs, era anymore.

Greg Monroe – Detroit Pistons

Monroe is primed to become a fantasy beast this season.

He was one of Detroit’s brightest stars during a decidedly strange year. After a slow start, Monroe’s numbers kept progressing steadily across the board. Prior to the All-Star break, he averaged 7.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg, .564 in free-throw percentage and .529 in field-goal shooting. After the break, he averaged 13.7 ppg, 10.0 rpg, .710 FT% and .580 FG%. By seasons’ end, he had posted 21 double-doubles.

With Monroe firmly part of a youth movement under the direction of new coach Lawrence Frank, there’s every reason to think Monroe will keep improving not only in scoring and rebounding, but in other categories, too.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Ed Davis – Toronto Raptors

Season

In the last 22 games of the season, Davis averaged 30.35 minutes logging 10.0 mpg, 8.1 rpg at .553 FG%. His starters’ numbers are even better (10.5 ppg/8.2 rpg in 17 games). Despite uncertainties regarding the future of Andrea Bargnani in Toronto, and his competition with Amir Johnson, Davis should see a bigger role this season. Free-throw shooting must improve.
pretty good article

carp was spot on about how many promising PFs (and Cs) there are in the league but i also really agreed with LX when he said let's not compare just think about what davis brings us.

I really like davis, and it's obvious (as others have said,) that he can be a double-double contributor. He's tough and durable and i mean that in my old favourite hobby horse as well, personality! love his personality. Can't see him giving us problems like favours has done. Strikes me as someone who will be very consistent. Had a really good rookie year, let's see where he develops from here.

conclusion from carp's post; The league will be exremely strong in the bigs positions in years to come!

Ed Davis needs, to get traded to the Blazers.

Luke Babbitt? You realize he lowers our desire for that deal, right?

What's wrong with the photo? Are you happy with this "gym rat" and how he bulked-up this summer? Everyone is talking about how he is hitting the weights right? How he is filling out his body right?

Unfortunately I legitimately have bigger pecs than him.... and I'm a scrawny, tall and skinny, whiteboy.

don't know when this pic was taken but this has got to be on bargnani's hands. when your highest paid player looks like he has muscular dystrophy its bound to rub off on the other players and clearly it has.

Nah, adding the twenty pounds doesn't happen until his contract year.

If that photo is accurate, then I just took another blow to my optimism for this team.

WTF.

this kid has millions, and NOTHING to do all day. I'd be in the gym, with a trainer, every day, twice a day, and jacking up minimum 2000 shots a day.

I just don't get these guys.... it blows my mind, 100%.

There is absolutely ZERO desire to become the best it seems.

IF that photo is accurate.

Man, these young kids just don't get it.... they're turrible!!

ed davis is at that stage where "i dont give a fuck, im in the nba and i run the raptors" besides, who coached him this past season and buried him on the bench, triano no? just wait until casey and pitchard comes in and starts confronting his ass after practice. if that doesn't light a fire, then nothing will... until jonas comes over here and starts taking his minutes

so going by that one picture which may or may not be recent, you think he doesn't care. And buried on the bench last season? What were you watching?
