Ed Davis in Tri Cities summer league Finals game

Looks pretty good. Not sure if he looks much bigger though...

#7 (in blue)

To be fair that dude was playing like a guard.

jj33 08-11-2011 11:07 PM

Alabi would look better!

He played no differently than a lot of skilled bigs in the NBA do and he's not even an NBA caliber player.

LOL at #12 crossing and scoring over Davis multiple times...

LOL at amateur players looking as good as NBA guys...

LOL at #2s ripped shirt...

#33 blue looked the best out there... I hope he at least plays somewhere overseas.

I think Davis' potential is slightly exaggerated. Remember, overly high expectations = disappointment

Pfffffffftttttttttttt....

When has a Raptor fan EVER exaggerated about a player's potential? Gimme a break. Dude is a lock for 1st team NBA.

Edit - I hope my sarcasm is obvious enough. :)

i higly doubt davis was giving a shit this game, he was wearing earrings. one game in a pickup tournament doesn't really show his full potential, the video you posted up a short while ago with brandon jennings getting wrecked by some streetballer doesn't mean the potential of jennings is exaggerated too. im just saying this just because alot of people judge too much on the hype of these hoopmixtapes rather than what is already proven in the NBA.

Ed was getting whooped by number 12 and I'm pretty sure Ed was trying as well. Did you see him shuffling his feet rigorously back and fourth on defense trying to cover him?

ok so KC rivers (number 12) was on fire that game scored 41, and ed davis got shitted on. it happens to everyone, but regarding peoples comments on how videos like this, highlights of a small league game, should be looked at and shows how a players potential is "exposed" is ridiculous. Michael beasley was on fire against kevin durant in rucker park and beasley's team won the game, see waht i mean?

my problem is why is davis not looking bigger.. is he taking it lazy? are we spoon feeding him arrogance again? its been what, 4 months since the end of the season? to be honest, from what i CAN SEE, ive had bigger gains than that in 4 months, while being a student..

In his defence.... it's not just about putting on size, but getting stronger and doing it in a way that doesn't impede his basketball growth. Anybody can go to the gym (especially as a student where time is plentiful) and put on bulk. It's a little difficult to really see his gains at this point if any, but I'm sure he's working on it.

Number 33 was Devin Ebanks I believe - I think he is signed by the Lakers?

Davis plays pretty physically on defense. And if he was playing that way in a game like this I'd be more pissed than seeing him get owned. This looked like an up and down game without much of any defensive scheme in place on either side. Coming to the conclusion that a guy might have unrealistic expectations placed on him, based on a shit summer-league game, is just a whacked-out jump to make, in the same vein as suggesting that Joey Dorsey could make a difference based on his summer league play.

Looks like you're right. That makes sense because he looked really good out there.

I don't know about that, Ed Davis's job is to play ball and workout to help him play ball lol. A student like me spends 30 hours a week going to classes than shitload of time reading and doing assignments and what not, leaving barely any time for anything else.I think the reason why he's not bigger is because he hasn't been working with the raptors trainers and might not have a proper diet yet, just a guess though.

6cubed 08-12-2011 03:29 PM

I think you're also underestimating genetics... some people can add bulk easily, others can try really hard and they will become more tone than bulky. Your DNA dictates how easily it is for you to gain muscle.

Put Corey Maggete in the weight-room and he can become an even bigger monster. Put Steve Nash in the weight-room and no matter how hard he tries (working out + dieting) he will never have Corey Maggete type muscles.

I think Ed Davis will have a strong core but he won't be a big body. He won't look like Dorsey or Patric Young (remember that guy lol). Davis seems average athletically. He has a soft touch which is good but he's not going to be a bully inside. Hopefully his IQ will help considering his dad was a pro. At the moment it's frustrating to see him and Amir swat at everything and pick up silly fouls.
