many puckheads don't know as much as they think about puck, like i care what they say about a basketball player. basketball fans in this city had more patience with Bargnani then they're showing with Davis. Especially when you consider Bargnani was a #1 pick.

That's why you have more patience with a player. His potential is that much greater.... you don't wait around for mediocre talent.

I'm saying that Davis is being judged harsher considering he was a #13 pick. Bargnani wasn't judged this badly 95 games into his career and he was the #1 pick.

judged harsher or just evaluated to not have as high a ceiling? I think part of it was all of the proclamations some were making about Ed being the PF of the future before the season.... obviously wishful thinking and some of it has to do with obvious limitations, such as size

you're dreaming - or just forgetful.
If i had no life, i'd consider digging into the RF archive and counting the number of 'trade bargs', 'bargs = bust', 'bargs sucks', 'curry > bargs' threads were on this site over Bargs' first 4 years in the league.
Davis doesnt even have 1. his name just comes up every now and then with complaints.

After 95 games (where Ed Davis is right now) and just missing out on ROY? Even after his second season most people still showed patience from what i remember.

Chuck Swirsky being the only media member in the league too stupid to vote for Brandon Roy does not count as "just missing out" on ROY.

And no, in his second season Bargs was discarded as useless by a great number of the fan base. There was hope from some corners, as there always was, but it was pretty bleak.

It's basically me and a few others who actually really hate on Davis this year lol

It's actually true, probably too much hate for a 13th pick. Just that when I saw him play in his rookie season, this guy looked LEGIT. Double-doubles across the board(Led the team), owning Griffin, and I saw great defensive instict. Very consistent. It's not even that this year is TERRIBLE, it's just much lower production from him than I thought. When Bargs comes back watch out, 15-20 minutes MAX for Eddy.

I think the problem with davis is that he's not showing anything right now, not even flashes
other than being a decent rebounder and the #13 pick, is there any reason to feel optimistic about him? Last season he got the benefit of being hurt for a few months and, while clearly relying mostly on energy for his production, he had some really good games. But right now he's not even showing that energy, and he hasn't improved at all in any areas of the game. He's not stronger, not faster, shoots just as poorly, has no handles, his defense has regressed, his shot blocking too.

If he wasn't the #13 pick, he wouldn't be playing right now, he's being outplayed by all other PFs on the roster. He had a golden chance with andrea out and amir struggling, and he failed.

Now, he's young and raw, next season will be different. But that doesn't mean he's not a major dissapointment so far. And with the improved play of Andrea, he's very expendable, so if the right trade comes along, would you really hang on to ed because he might improve dramatically the next season?

I believe Bargnani was even benched by Mitchell by his 2.5 years in and rarely played in the palyoffs at that time where Kapono took the spotlight.

As for Davis, I think we all realistically saw him as another Davis, Antonio. We visioned him to be a 10-12/10 type of player after having a very promising rookie season of close to double digits. It as mentioned that he was working hard to improve his overall game during the offseason, and we all expected him to be our starting PF off the bat. Considering he hasnt had a proper training camp yet (Injury and Lockout), hes still trying to figure out where he fits.
This season he really looks like dead weight on the court. He seems unpassionate at the moment and really needs something to give it a spark like his rookie season. As well he really needs to develop a post move of some sort and a mid range. Otherwise hell just become a very poor mans Ben Wallace without the tenacity and athleticism.

The guy we let walk to the Clips was more effective for me at least than Davis is. Davis is too small to be a big, and too big to be a small because he really isn't a baller more than 5 feet from the rack. At least Evans grabbed 38 rebounds a quarter!

He obvioulsy read this thread

I am getting a feeling that problem is not in Demar and Ed, but in talent development. Triano was better at making young players comfortable and letting them play through mistakes without pressure

It's probably the defensive standards they have to mantain now. It was all run-and-go fast-breaks before, who wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

Ed Davis has barely played a full seasons worth of games, yet to have a full training camp, been through a lockout, no summer league last summer, two coaches. All at 22yrs old.... Give him time.
When will people ever drop the fact that playing as a centre isn't his thing? Of course his defense would be terrible. Isn't his defense, as a pf, amazing now?

Ed davis doesn't need to be given time to develop because no matter what happens he will be redundant on this team. Now, if he bulked up and got a lot better like he said he would, it would be a different story. Then, I would consider him equal to Amir.
