Yeah and even if we could beat those elite teams in east, we wouldnt win because Lakers would kill us in finals. Time to give up and wait until we are sure to win the title.

I would be more than happy if we could get to the second round. Even getting to fifth spot and fighting hard against a top team in the playoffs could be considered a successfull season after last years failure.

The Raptors aren't the team to go past a 2nd round.
They have a chance at winning the 1st round depending on who it is.
The Raptors shpuld finish 5th with a really big outside chance of 4th if Atlanta folds like they are currently doing.
They lost to Miami badly!!!
While Miami is strong at home they have been playing terrible basketball in past week plus.
Wade and Beasley are the only 2 good players on the team.
Yesterday they had Maglorie playing 20 plus minutes.
Toronto has a good schedule for the balance of the year.

The way I see it.

Boston
Cleveland
Orlando
Atlanta
Toronto
Chicago
New York
Miami

Why would anyone EVER assume it's a good idea to lose any game, EVER.

Win um all.

Always win.

Always win.

Unless you are second last, and losing a game gets ya last place OA and LeBron James is in that years lottery

I agree totally. If Raptors made it past the first round not many people would say "big whoop". I know I would be excited I LOVE playoff basketball and if the raps are in it for another round it would be like winning the title this year IMHO.

You for the win no matter what .. of course if its for a lottery spot u think again.

i think that the raps have had probably the toughtest or near the top of the league in terms of difficulty and this year, it seems, we have made some improvements overall as we were 14-21 last year on this date. it may seem like a small improvement, but we are starting to turn a corner. this week we have some tough games, but if we focus on what has been successful, we have the ability to win any game we really want to, the question with this team is always DESIRE!

it will probably go down like this

Cleveland
Orlando
Boston
Atlanta
Toronto
Miami
Charlotte
New York

or

Cleveland
Boston
Orlando
Atlanta
Toronto
Charlotte
Miami
New York

I would be fine with 5th seed but 4th would be better...but in order to keep Bosh we either gona have to have a close first round exit or most likely go to the next round

I'll be surprised if Clevbeland stays at #1. They simply have the 4th best talen in the east. I say they'll end up 3rd or 4th.

Orlando
Boston
Cleveland
Atlanta
Toronto
Miami
Chicago
Charlotte

the main difference between best four and below is road performance..we need to improve it if we want to win a 7 game serie in the playoff..
our place is pretty well according to expectations and 5th reachable..
but an home court advantage would be fantastic..

i wish that ..
"our game" is a general form that fans use it when their team play well..
but the real question is "is this our real game ? "
this team doesnt known as a good defending team for years..
i can easily say it is improving but players should play good defence consistently..

I say defense is our game, because it has clearly been the focus since training camp, we are improving at it, and it has gotten us some W's (IE against San Antonio)...

I don't care about "years" and the past......this is a new team, with a new coach, different players, and IMO a different mindset....

playing good defense consistently as a unit comes with time, and the fact that we're improving is a great sign...

But they also have LeBron in his prime, if he's even there yet. Sure, outside of Mo Williams and Shaq (on a good night) their role players aren't anything special, but they can easily beat any team with a hefty contribution from LBJ. Besides, what they have has worked so far... why would it stop all of a sudden?

Atlanta is overachieving, IMO. Joe Johnson is good, but he's not franchise-player good. They have a balanced team of excellent role players. Come playoff time, I don't see them making too big of a splash. Boston is old and injury prone. Sure, when they're all together, it's a very very good team... Championship caliber. But KG couldn't stay healthy for last season's playoffs, and him and PP have already been out for a while this season. I'm a little skeptical about their ability to stay healthy in the Playoffs. And Orlando pretty much underachieved. They have all the pieces to go far, but I guess the team hasn't gelled yet. They're the toughest to read because they can have a great couple of series and get to the Finals again, or they can collapse if their core isn't clicking.

As for the Raptors, I think we can definitely turn it up in the near future. In the rest of January, we play Philly and Miami once, and Indiana, NY, and Milwaukee twice each. We also play Orlando, Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, and LA. 8 games we can definitely win, and 5 that we should struggle in.

As a start, I would love for us to at least get the 8 games we know we can win. However, knowing the inconsistent nature of our Raps, I'm not sure if we will. At the end of January, we will have a better picture of where we stand. If we can steal one (or a few) of those games from the elite teams and win most (if not all) of the teams that we should be beating, I'd say that we're in good shape. If not, then we will make the playoffs only because the East is so weak, and we will probably get swept in the first round.

Remember that almost all of us predicted the Raps to struggle at first, seeing as how only 3 players were left from last year's squad. And so far, we have struggled. But we have also shown some great improvement, have picked up some steam, and are now looking to improve our spot in the top 8, not just secure it. If we continue to improve, I don't see why we can't roll into the playoffs being that one team that nobody really wants to play.

Atlanta has more overall talent then Cleveland. Take Lebron out of Clevelands lineup and they wouldn't make the playoffs, same with Miami with Wade who has even less talent around him. Lebron may very well carry them to the #1 or #2 spot. But Orlando and Boston are just better.

Man, part of me would love to see Lebron go down for a few months to see how they would do without him.

Before the season started, 6th place and approx .500 at New Years wouldn't be much of a surprise. Most people figured with so much roster movement and a tough schedule much better than .500 at this point would be wishful thinking.

In regard to the importance of our playoff matchup, how we perform is irrelevant if we don't crack the top 4 in terms of matchups. Between 5-8 we'd be facing elite teams in every round without home advantage. 4th place for this team isn't realistic, we aren't going to play better than Atlanta. That being said, what is important is this team keeps winning in order to show Bosh that we will be a contender in the near future. I really don't think Bosh is going to leave Toronto for a worse team - that makes it that much more important to crush Miami, Chicago, NY, etc. in the standings. Here's to a .600% season.

with the moves in the offseason, toronto was projected at 4-6 seed.

Bosh was happy with that and said we'll see. If it isn't enough, fuck him, it only shows that he's a "what can the world do for me" guy.

If it is good enough, he's a man of his word, keep his ass.

I know what you mean, but it's like saying 'take MJ off the Bulls, and they wouldn't have won those Championships.' Sure, the rest of the team isn't as good as the Hawks, and if LeBron played in ATL instead of Joe Johnson, for example, then they would be a virtual lock for the Finals, if not for the title.

But when it comes down to it, great players win games. And LBJ is one of the best of all time, already. Yea, they're not as talented of a team outside of him, but shit he's still a part of the squad and he wins games for them. I agree in the sense that I doubt he can win a title with the Cavs' current roster, but he can single-handedly carry them through the playoffs.
