BC is a good GM. All the moves he did JO trade, Turkoglu signing, Jose re-signing were considered good moves at the time. He isn't a GM who sits around and does nothing like many other GMs in this league.

We still don't have a clear view of where this franchise is headed until we get our next franchise player to build around.

I have no faith in BC so I am fine with this as long as they can bring in a capable replacement.

I kind of hope BC is gone, and I don't really care if the Teachers or even the Allegiance of Homeless Bottle Collectors decides his fate.

I just want ownership settled. I'm less worried about anything else being up in the air. That is going to be the case until ownership is settled. If it takes a long time for any sale, then that is what is going to be increasingly problematic. This might only be the beginning.

I understand what the Teachers Fund (or Silvesrtri) decision. As far as I can remember, the BC signing back in 2006 was all Tenenbaum's idea for desperate move that's why he sent Peddie down at the All Star game in Houston to meet with Colangelo and seduce him to babysit the Raptors squad.

Because of Bryan's track record in Phoenix, the Teachers thought Bryan would turn the franchise into a CONTENDER... immediately. But still, the Raptors are still the same. So this could be the reason why they won't want BC back. It wasn't what the Teachers Fund expected to turn out.

To be honest, I thought Bryan would turn this team into a powerhouse team. I still want BC to be back as our GM regardless where this team is heading now that he's open on trading Bustnani.

If they want BC gone, I think the most possible replacement in my opinion would be Wayne Embry if not Maurizio Gherardini. We can't have Kevin Pritchard, he's already committed to the Mavs.

Sorry to write a book, but this is the wrong city, wrong climate and wrong timing for some dork GM who still has on training wheels to take over to save a buck. If you don't care who they bring in as long as it is not Colangelo, as a basketball fan, you are really asking for it.
That Colangelo tried to mix and match parts to contend and wound up with a below average to average result is not a failing to me, especially since he is able to reverse "unmoveable" contracts.

Put some blame where it is due because this was a big market team with a middle market budget. Do you know how many franchises would have killed for a 25 million dollar profit?

Turn just one of your 4 million dollar scrubs into a 14 million dollar star with what they had as a winning team at the right positions and they are top 4 in the east with 15 mil profit (playoffs + increased attendance).

Turn two 4 million dollar scrubs into two 14 million dollar stars and you may pay more luxury tax but you are now a contender and a destination also. I'm not naive enough to think you are a beast of a team every year, but you should be fine if Isiah Thomas is not running things.

Money lust helped drive this bus off a cliff. We didn't even need an owner who is willing to lose money like cuban, we needed one that was not all about the bottom line.

Nice post Ammo.

About 5 years ago, BC turned a 27 win team into a 47 win team. He had very little to work with, but managed to squeeze out "nobodies" like Garbojosa and Parker (a bit arguable since the Lakers also pursued him).

I think that BC has a bad record with O'Neal and Turkoglu (which people generally praised at the time). But people don't look at the small moves that made an impact like getting Amir Johnson, James Johnson, Marco Belinelli, etc. With an unfavourable league environment, I think Colangelo can really help by making those under-the-radar moves.

If Maurizio becomes the GM of this team, I'll stop watching the raptors.

OMG if BC isn't our GM, this team will tank for the next 10 years.

I agree that the commitment to spend money has been questionable.

As to BC's under the radar moves - he's been on the negative side of some of those. We traded Kris Humphries for a guy that isn't in the league now. We traded Bonner for a guy that ended up being a support system for Bargnani. As much as I like Amir, a guy like Delfino can be quite valuable. And there have been so many wing players that didn't amount to anything that it's quite painful, so losing Delfino really takes some of the shine off of gaining Amir.

Ultimately my biggest criticism is not having a philosophy that works in a situation where attracting talent is difficult, and finding the money to pay for talent is grim. Defense needs to be where the emphasis lies. That just hasn't been the case here, and largely due to the personnel he has brought in and promoted as key core pieces.

Regardless of how amazing or horrible of a GM Bryan Collangelo is, one thing is for certain.

He is easily the most overrated GM by any fanbase of any sport. I've never heard a GM be held in such high regard amidst so much losing that most fans would consider him irreplaceable.

It really confuses me.

We see like 1% of the work the man actually does. 99% is done behind closed doors, through text messages, phone calls and meetings, all of which we never witness.

Yet he is still the golden boy.

One thing I've noticed about Bryan is that is once impenetrable calm-sure demeanor has cracked ever so slightly since Bosh left. He's smooth but not 2008 Bryan Collangelo smooth.

What's there to elaborate on. I find it hilarious that you think with everything else going on that a capable replacement would be brought in. If BC isn't retained be prepared for a quick fix schmuck to be brought in. Another Babcock/Ferguson situation would be upon us.

What capable replacement? Enlighten me Merlin...

Keep in mind MLSE is a disaster and has bigger fish to fry.

It depends on the owners attitude. If you are mentioning those GM, then you should also mention Leafs brought in Burke, a GM building towards the future.

Who knows... maybe MLSE has learned from their mistakes. The team is rebuilding, you can't quick fix this dump.

Fans are supposed to know the replacement? Really?

Considering BC hasn't been given an extension, I am sure they have at least made a list of GM they would like.

And with a possible lockout, they might not even have to immediately make a decision.
