E. Smith: Colangelo interview from today

Brian Colangelo talked with Eric Smith to day and here are some of the main highlites of what he said:

-Needs to be aware of the situation next season (cap) looking ahead
-Possibly looking to overspend a little to get 1 or 2 -1yr contracts to get the best team on the floor
-12Mil below the tax threshold at this point
-Needs to sit down with George/Wright...they are moveable parts

im just happy that colangelo has made some primary moves, was getting sick of reading some of the insane rumors.

Now you understand what I've been telling in half of these topics? We can't sign Delfino and Pops with Bird rights and get guys with full MLE and LLE. Roughly 12 M, we're tax payers next season

Tax payers next season? He's looking to go to the tax threshold this season mainly with One year contracts therefore have approx. 10Mil come off the books next summer.And if you listen to this interview he says he may overpay for a player or two for a 1yr contract. He wants to go as deep as possible this season and will look to get players signed to larger 1yr contracts for flexibility next season.

We are not going to let the MLE go un-used. We got it for a reason and as BC said we'll get 1 yr players so that next year we'll have the cap flexibilty to go after Bosh and still be under the Luxury Tax. We'll prolly get Rasho(LLE), Delfino, Pops, Back-up PG(some MLE) and a back-up wing player(some MLE). Then we'll call it quits with a deep team that has the potential to go far

if Bosh extends, his salary will not increase in the next year. As a matter of fact, his salary will decrease in the first extension year. If I understand this correctly, his starting salary in the extension cannot surpass 30% of the cap? Which could be as little as 15 million.

I know, anyone who think BC won't use MLE/LLE along with the Bird rights after going through all this is delusional.

In an Interview today BC said that next summer he plans on extending Bosh (if he wants to stay) and then having the MLE to spend.

this game is our past time, it's colangelo's life. Add to the fact that he is about 20x smarter (partially because he's a GM with lot of inside info. Regardless, I have much much more respect for him after seeing this offseason unfold so far. This is sweet, Im rotting till the end of september

In an Interview on RapsTV he said he was a deal junkie and is itching to get back at it to get more done. This man is intense and loves his job.

MLSE needs to give him an extension.

then again, he just came off of the "Best team he has ever assembled in toronto" last year, we would be crazy not to extend after argueably the most disappointing season in franchise history (in terms of expectation and results).

So lesson for our budding GMs, overachieve, severely underachieve, sign a big name FA = get extended

We're not going to overspend. It's really hard to get 1 year deals, but I'd love to see Jarret Jack playing 1 year for a full MLE

It was a good team last year. If not for injuries, coach changes, low depth at PG and Bosh/ONeal/Bargs redundancy.
Hard to predict all that.

We won't go over the tax, no shit. But BC said yesterday that he's been aproved by the board to spen up to the tax and that it's around 12Mil. I would say he'd struture it so that he has flexibility next summer. He said he'd overpay a player this year on a 1 year contract. Therefore a player looking at the market this season would take more money for one year and go into free agency next summer.

I don't really like any of the free agents this year, no one is really able to come out and really separate themselves from others. I rather BC sign the best player in the free agency pool, package him with george and wright for a dominant sg. That way Raptors will go to the next level.
