E.Smith: Asking price for top 3 pick was Bargnani + #9

Looks like Harden's agent might have been the one contacting BC?

Eric Smith was on the Fan 590 earlier and had this to say:

As per fan 590;
-Raptors tried very hard to trade upto top 3; had a strong interest in James Harden. Asking price was too strong (Bargnani + 9th pick); BC rejected
-Up to an hour to the draft; rumours about Raptors trading down were true. NYK camp revealed strong interest in Derozan if Curry was gone. BC felt Curry would be taken by timberwolves and DD would go to NYK. Didnt see a player after DD worth going 9th so was looking at trading down and getting another pick. All the trades screwed this process over; as the draft board became unpredictable.
-After NYK picked Hill; entire Raptors war room went nuts; and selected DD immediately.
-Embry, BC, JT, entire raptor crew loved DD's potential and when ppl will look back at this draft; DD will be a steal.
-BC feels that the potential of DD is stronger than anyone he has drafted at 9 (Marion, Amare) and we might have a future star in the making.

I agree that Bargs + our 9 isn't worth it for the 3. Anyways I'm happy with DeRozan and it's good to see Colangelo having so much confidence in him.

I wouldn't have traded Bargnani and DeRozan for Blake Griffin.

It's not like he's expected to be the saviour of the franchise or anything like that. A lot of people realize that he's not going to be a major contributor right away, and while I do believe that people will expect him to play due to the Raptors' void in the SG position, it's not something outside of the realm of a solid role player. I'd say those are fair expectations.

Yeah, pretty steep. I think that outside Griffin, no one in the draft is going to turn out to be better than Andrea.

I thought New York would take him if Curry was gone too.

Do not believe this thread. A poster on realgm made it and it was proved to be fake.
