Default Dwyer: Questionable Attempts at 45 wins

This is part of a list of other teams. See it all here -

Toronto Raptors
Under the smart guidance of new general manager Masai Ujiri, the Raptors don’t really feel like the “shoot for 45 wins at all cost”-outfit that Bryan Colangelo put together last year. We’re sure that Rudy Gay could be had for the right price, and that Ujiri wants to go slow and smart with his rebuilding process. If Gay’s eyesight and overall efficiency improves, though, the Raptors (coming off of a 36-win season) could find themselves a step ahead in the process, and possibly making the playoffs. As always, Kyle Lowry’s leadership and decision-making will be key.

1 extended injury to any of the starting 5 could ruin any playoff hopes.

Why is that the key?

I would have thought that playing good defense was the key next year.

Three key players: KL, RG, JV (if they can improve over last season we're in decent shape)

Derozan will likely be Derozan (average at best D, suck from 3) and I expect Amir to once again to be good.

X-factors off the bench:

*one of our backup PG's need to step up
*LF needs to be better
*SN needs to continue hitting 3's, if not he is useless
*TH needs to give us what is expected, toughness/rebounding

IF most of that happens (+ health) we could see playoff games next April. Not that we'd win anything in the playoffs but our young players really need to dip their toe into the playoff pool. Especially DD, after 4 seasons of losing for him.

Yeah, I agree, but Lowry is going to be important as a leader in that regard. If he puts it all together then this roster works pretty well.

+1 absolutely, this team will go where KL goes. If he sucks then you'll see a discombobulated mess on the floor again as players break away from the system and try more iso's.

If he's as he was prior to last year the Raps will do well imo.

key is to avoid injuries to startes
meaning playing them less
meaning bench must produce, but also Casey needs to use it properly

Problem is, his biggest problem last year was Casey.

If he can't get along with the coach, which happened before, too bad for him. He will find himself on 1-2 year deals past this season.
