Dwayne Wade: 2010
Is there any chance of it happening? I was trying to think about what I would do if I were BC, and I think an *ideal* (dream?) plan of attack as GM would be this:

Keep the team as is until 2010. *Somehow* convince Bosh to resign and then try to do two things, sign Dwayne Wade. Trade Kapono (this could happen before 2010), perhaps Kapono and draft picks for Gerald Wallace or any SF which will improve D and help on the glass.

Wallace (or any other good SF, even keep Kaps, Moon etc if you want)

That would be a lineup worth going into luxury taxes for.

My question is how realistic do you guys think this scenario is, both financially and from the perspective of Wade coming north.

I know some people are tired of all this hypothetical shit, but I think its interesting. If you want to post "don't talk about this crap just shut up until 2010" don't bother, I don't want to hear it.

Gurk 11-09-2008 10:36 PM

I think Wadecoming to TO is a realistic idea. No point in dreaming cause other fans are dreaming of Bosh coming to their team

EggsToTheBBQ 11-09-2008 10:45 PM

I don't think the chances of two of LBJ, Bosh and Wade being on the same team is very high.

Salary wise, I think it may be almost impossible, unless there's a franchise willing to go very deep into luxury tax territory. Toronto is not one of them.

its_asdf 11-09-2008 11:30 PM

About as realistic as Michael Jordan coming back from retirement again.

CB4 11-10-2008 12:27 AM

0 chance.
Bosh + wade + wallace. that almost puts us over teh cap there.
u can dream but just remember..never happening.

Windex 11-10-2008 01:23 AM

Sure it can happen players want to play with other great player, so Wade will come to Toronto if Bosh is here.

The Raptors can afford it because they can use the cap space left by O'Neal plus any other cap clearing moves they make.

Look at the Celtics this year
Kevin Garnett $24,751,934
Ray Allen $18,388,430
Paul Pierce $18,077,903

It's possible

jumplvlan23 11-10-2008 01:32 AM

The Raptors with Wade and Bosh would be a force, assuming both are healthy.
The rest of the roster could be filled out according to needs, great role players that do not demand as much in salary.

I like this better for 2010;

keep 12 of our guys until the summer of 2010 (somehow) (bosh, bargs, jose, hump, will, ukic, moon, JO, kaps, nathan, graham, & adams) & than resign bosh (pick up the 2011/12 player option + 5 years), we resign joey, resign jawai, resign moon, resign solomon, we'll have ukic, sign (with qualifying offer) and trade bargs for something decent but is only $3-6 million, I say we don't sign parker for even next year and get some cheaper and still decent euro. guard or some good 2 guard for a couple years, we'll still have hump and calderon, trade kapono for somethin cheaper but still decent or able to somewhat fill the void, resign adams....& sign........AMARE STOUDEMIRE!

F**k JO, him and bosh are going to be making $38.8 million together in 2009/10 (next year), wheras in 2014/15, bosh and amare will make $47.6 million. All we have to do is clear out $8 million worth of cap space (like I explained above with getting rid of bargs, kapono and AP) OR we can keep bargs and kapono (AP will be too old by then, so no AP, instead sign travis outlaw or something) and go into luxury, BUT we will win a championship for the tax, so I don't think the maple leaf co. will mind. Seats will be #1 in the nba in sold out crowds after this deal + merchandise (amare jerseys, etc.).

It'll look something like this between the two (most likely going into luxury tax, but not much, if any);

2010/11 2011/12 2012/13 2013/14 2014/15 2015/16
CB4 $17.15 $19.5 $20.8 $22.1 $23.4 $24.7
Amare $19.0 $20.3 $21.6 $22.9 $24.2 (player opt.)

Phoenix is offering Amare $17.7 million in 2010/11 as his player option (but he will be a unrestricted free agent in 2010!) and we can afford to give $1.3 million more than Phoenix to him with this plan (clearing out cap, luxury tax, etc.) and he'll want to play with an ALREADY GOOD team with two allstars (+ himself) & bosh will sign for sure if Amare comes (they'll be playing together in their prime)! Phoenix will be old and they'll suck (37 year old Nash, Shaq will be gone, etc.)......... so what better place is there for amare to come to than TO!

We will win a championship, have 3 allstars (A REAL big 3) and maybe one of them will win the MVP award!

Ugo Ferst 11-10-2008 02:44 AM

So, we may get Wade, Lebron, or even keep Chris!! Woah... not betting every other teams fans make similar threads saying the same :P

The MVP of West Hollywood 11-10-2008 03:36 AM

I don't think it'll happen, too many teams are gunning for Wade in 2010 for him to choose Canada. Not to mention I think Wade is probably 80% likely to just stay in Miami, Lebron is the guy that's probably moving to NY, Chicago, or Brookyln if they move in time. Chicago is the team I'd be most scared of, assuming they move Hinrich for expirings they should have the room for sure, the allure of "Here's 25 mil a year to come play with Derrick Rose in MJ land" would probably be hard to turn down.

Joe Johnson is the guy I'm looking at. Caldy, Johnson, Bosh, and Bargs... fuck yeah!

henrymakepeace 11-10-2008 07:03 AM

Team needs a leader
Bosh is a fantastic player but he lacks leadership skills and he can't create his own shot unless he is isolated with a slow-moving power forward. I absolutely agree that we need a combo shooting guard like Dwayne Wade. Hedo Turkoglu will also be available next year or after I am not sure. He'd love to play in a Euro-style team.

Best move would be trade Bargnani+Kapono for an all-star calibrated SG or SF.

Belsius 11-10-2008 07:30 AM

toronto is not a euro-style team. Toronto has european players and thats about it. :)

jumplvlan23 11-10-2008 09:28 AM

- Bosh lacks leadership skills? This isn't 2004.
- Bargnani + Kapono will not net us an all-star calibrated SG or SF.

MangoKidHoops 11-10-2008 09:37 AM

No chance Wade comes here. I'm sure Chicago will try to do some manuvering to bring Wade home. A Rose + Wade backcourt? That's a dream for the Bulls.

If anything, Wade signs on in a major American market if he doesn't resign in Miami (which I'm sure he will)

Ugo Ferst 11-10-2008 12:17 PM

Seriously, did someone say build a team around Joe Johnson?? LAWLERSKATES!!!

MangoKidHoops 11-10-2008 12:26 PM

I don't know if you can build a team around Joe Johnson, as the focal part of your team -but the Hawks did just that - and they're doing very well. However, I'd think he's more of complimentary piece. I'd love to have him here.

bballhead34 11-10-2008 05:41 PM

I think we should invest in center try getting Stoudemire from the Suns and if we can get Wade and resign Bosh then we would have a good lineup to contend for NBA Championships

I'd love to see him come here. Also, that line-up would be sick. :D

MLSE is not rolling around in dough, and even if it were, they wouldn't want to spend it on 3 huge contracts like that.
