George Karl set a franchise record for wins and was the COY and got canned. It can happen to anyone. Personally I think he should be let go at the end of the season regardless. Other than re-signing Lowry, the easiest way to improve this team will be hiring a coach with deep playoff experience AS A HEAD COACH. The most success the Raptors ever achieved was with Lenny, and I believe you need a Van Gundy or a George Karl to solidify a winning culture.

I always thought NBA coaches are the joke (except the very few like Popovic), Casey is one of the worst in the league (not the Kidd or Woodson caliber but not far behind). He has to go after the season, there are many better options out there.

If this team continues to win, it will attract vet coaches who may just want to take on a young and rising team.
so how do you justify that
say we win 50 games, do you really think this team is a 60 win team that is held back by the coach?

Thriller was pissed off at casey for the development of our young guys, but the way ross and jv are playing lately, he's probably changed his mind, or at least is not so certain (I would presume).

casey is making the team overachieve - and you want him gone. Don't get it.

+1 Nurse is an underrated coach, he took many D-league teams to win the championships, he should possibly wait a little longer with a vet coach until I believe he can take that role

If he gets 3rd place and goes to the 2nd round I think there's a pretty good chance he's kept.

Who would be our other options? Karl? Tbh I don't like how he coaches, it wont work in the playoffs IMO.

And he seems to be on the same page as Masai.
At the same time, you have to consider that Masai trading Bargnani and Gay and not re-signing AA sort of saved Casey from himself. While the system has something to do with it, DJ in Chicago could make you wonder.

I don't get it..
people want another coach to develop a winning culture etc etc.. and they don't feel that Casey is the rite one

Was Popivich winning championships his first year coaching, or how about Phil Jackson..
why not start with Casey.. don't you think coaches learn the more they coach. Ya'll wan't more experienced coaches, but the Raptors haven't made the playoffs in 5 years, I could understand if it was a situation like the pistons who were winning and released Rick Carlisle and hired coach brown to get them over the hump.. but let us at least make it to the playoffs and see how Casey coaches the squad first

I'm not a fan of Casey but his point does make sense. The elite, experienced coaches have to start somewhere, they don't come outta trees.

pre-rudy trade casey, not a chance.
post-rudy trade casey.. I wouldn't mind keeping.

Its a tough decision and I could write a whole essay on whether its a good or bad idea to keep casey, but ultimately I trust Masai to make the right call.

If he feels there is a better coach out there and can put the Raptors in a better position to win basketball games then so be it.

So a month ago not a chance.....now, he's a keeper....in January?

All i'm saying is that it's still way too early to say. Let's see where we are in a couple months. A lot of ball to come..

the Raptors were unwatchable in novemeber and some of his coaching decisions were plain bad.
Its quite unbelievable how much changed in just a month, but it clearly has.

Most of the problems I had with casey last month are gone now.
- limited minutes for valanciunas & ross
- poor plays out of time outs
- piss poor ball movement & low assist (iso-centric) offense
- small ball & double PG line ups (reduced but still using it time to time)
- inability to hold players accountable (e.g. rudy gay's shot selection)

he was able to fix most of these problems, or reduce them, while keeping the positive things he brought to the team like defense and rebounding.

Like i've said before...it's been one month. If we struggle a month from now and his poor decision come back to the forefront people will change their minds again. We're not even half way through the season yet.

Well.. out of all the coaches we had, the ones I really wanted out was Lenny Wilkins and Sam Mitchell

I never had a problem with Casey.. and I think he is doing a good job with this squad now

You do realize that those 2 coaches are the only ones to ever help lead a Raptors team to the playoffs right? I would prefer those 2 over Casey by a long shot, along with Butch Carter.

I voted "wait and see". The coach has to fit the players and I've been impressed with how good Ross has looked on defense. Casey + Nurse + a complimentary roster of players might be a decent combination.
