I can't even touch the rim on a 9 fott net. I am 5'8" and a half. I am a fat kid so I have no vertical at all. I jump like 2" off the ground lol

I'm a 5'11 skinny brown kid and the only thing I can do is grab onto the mesh lol...and after I dislocated my knee last year I don't even try that hard to jump at the rim anymore. Last time I dunked was in the summer on a 8 foot rim at my cousin's house lol, did it pretty easily but didn't feel too good when I hit the ground. More of a hustle guy like Jim Carrey

I'm not quite 5'11" but I threw down a couple one-handers in warm-ups one game. I came to my senses and calmed down after that because my bread and butter was my long-range shooting and the adrenaline was gonna mess up my game and we can't have that Billy Ho.

I used to be able to do the Jordan style one-handed baseline jam where you kinda dunk it behind your head as you're floating by - but only with a volleyball on a 10' rim.

I can still touch the rim at 34 and I'm pretty damn proud of it.

back in Highschool, lol i had a breakaway, so i attempted to dunk, i missed but it hit the rim, the impact of the rim pushed the ball back it hit the backboard and went in, everyone still went crazy, so it was one of my great highlights lol

Armchair.

The majority of my better dunks came after HS. I had maybe 35-36 inches in my last HS year. University was different as I was training every day to jump.

41" was the last testing measurement during December testing for the Volleyball team. It wasn't a consistent 41, we pushed each other to touch higher and higher on the backboard. I got to the top of the box and maxed out. My best dunk in HS was an old Ron Harper copy.

Ron Harper at 25 seconds, Jordan does it too, but me and my buddies always called it the Ron Harper!

So funny.

I had one really great chance against St. Catharines collegiate. I had spent a semester there and a lot of the guys on the team were friends. I remember I went over on my ankle in the second quarter but taped t play the third. I got a clean pick and took off down the left side and my buddies on the CI team, Richie Duncan and Leon Bell were screaming at me to dunk it but I had no lift with the blown wheel.

It was hilarious because we were all laughing after that when I hobbled back down the floor.

Good times, good memories

I know that my dad was 6'6, and my bro passed him when he was in grade 12. In an earlier post, I said that I lost the genetic lottery because many people told me I'd be as tall as them. When I was 14, I was actually a little taller than my dad and brother were at the same age. But I completely stopped growing at 14. Height is one of those things you definitely can't predict with certainty.

So Kenny Smith at 38 seconds. I could do that one pretty easy.

I'm flattered, but my vertical is complete shit and I'm 5'10 :P On 8 foot dunkable's I've done some wind mills and reverse jams and shit, but on 10 footers I stick to driving, midrange j's, and 3 point shots with a bit of post up step back shots.

I'm 5'11 and getting close to touching the bottom of the backboard square.

Palming the ball mid air though is another problem to tackle

I guess you're not thinking about the statistics of it because we're all just bball fans here and, not surpisingly, the vast majority of posters are right in the average for height - 5'9 to 5'11. You don't have to be able to dunk to be a good baller; just either really tall and/or a phenomenal athlete.

This thread was fun to read! I'm certainly not going to fool you into thinking I can dunk, especially not of my gender. But I used to play coed pickup, and this one time someone's brother came out to play. She couldn't tell us his height exactly because she only knew in meters, but she guessed he was 7'. Geez he didn't have much of a game, but believe me it was awesome seeing him dunk alongside us. It's probably as close as I'm ever going to be next to Bargnani (even Rasho).

I dunked in my first three games of the grade 10 season, and never dunked in a game after that . A few back rim chunks though. I was 6'1 at that point and never grew any taller and focused more of just making buckets instead of potentially chunking dunks. Basically became a lazy PG who stuck around the perimeter.

I couldn't dunk standing flat footed under the rim -always needed a running start. Basic dunks for the most part; one hand, two hands, off the backboard. Pulling off a decent dunk in warm ups in front of an opposing gym is a stellar feeling -kinda miss it. I'm only a few years removed, so I think I can still throw down. On a 10 foot rim too, as opposed to 9'3.

Uh, I think you missed the point of my post. Indeed I am thinking about the statistics of it. Let's take another look at the part of my post you quoted; I said:

Quote:

Do you see the parts I bolded? I said "a few people around here will have well above average physical abilities or features. The key part being "a few." That's completely consistent with the vast majority of people being 5'9 -5'11. But "a few" people around here used to play ball, so "a few" are probably going to be big. Maybe even more than "a few." Maybe a handful. Not everybody on this forum has commented in this thread. Now, when it came to crazy leaping ability, I said "a person" on this forum could have crazy leaping ability, just like how 'trane has huge feet. "A person" is singular. It means just that "a person." One person. So, AGAIN, I am taking into account the statistics. Nothing about saying "a person" (singular), is inconsitent with most people here not being able to dunk.

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Basic one handed dunk off two legs though. To take into consideration I am about 6'0.5" and was around 165 pounds in my senior year. I don't think I can even come close to dunking now that I bulked up to 175. I bet Trane was throwing down 2 handed cockback flat footed dunks back in the day considering he is 6'9" 260.

Did you know that now a days in games during warmup in highschool or college that you can get T'd up for doing dunks during warmup. I'm not sure if that rule exists in Ontario but it does here.

At the varsity level (grade 11/12), you can't play the 4 or the 5 when you're only 6 feet. The thing that sucked the most was, for most of my life, my teachers, coaches and my family doctor always told me I was going to be really tall, since my Dad was huge and my older brother is a giant. I lost the genetic lottery....big time.
This is exactly what happened to me. I grew to six feet by grade 9 and I use to play the 4-5 up till then. However, in 11 and 12 I had to play the 2 and 3 and I sucked because I was a poor shooter and I poor ball handler and I remained on the bench for most of the time in my grade 11 and 12 year.
