Even that skill alone, assuming it translated, would've guaranteed him a 10 year career as the guy you stick on Howard and Bynum
hasheem thabeet. not that i'm stating drummond's a bust, or ever did. i didn't keep up with the rookie's being drafted, and am not aware of their skill. i just know thabeet was a monster who turned into thabust

Thabeet is no where near as athletic as Drummond.

I wanted Drummond to be the pick if he was available.

The team he was with at UConn was dysfunctional, and he joined the team late so there were plenty of valid reasons why he didn't have a good college season.

I think that Drummond was passed on because Ross is a better fit with the needs of the team.

Personally, I think the best draft strategy is to think long term and get a guy that has the tools to be great down the road (tools like size, athleticism, and motivation).

Still, Ross has looked really good so far, he is very quick and long for a 2 guard, his shot looks really nice, and he is a tenacious defender.

Ross will be a solid pro, but Drummond could be a game changer.

BC wanted the sure thing rather than the gamble. Can't really blame him for that. Ross was a smart pick for more than just what he brings to the table, he also pushes DeMar to become the best that he can be.

BC will rarely if ever take a player with any kind of question marks with a lottery pick, especially at a position that we already have depth at. Drummond had a bad reputation heading into the draft (attitude, lazy...etc)and from what i remember they weren't that impressed with him in whatever workouts they saw him in.

The things we were looking to get (3's, defense, toughness, motor) he apparently had question marks (lazy, defense).

the main thing here is why the hell is it the end of the world because BC didn't select a player who had a 12 point 7 rebound night in a 1 game sampling without even taking into account any other variables

I wouldn't say that, BC's taken plenty of draft-day gambles. Andrea was far from a sure thing in '06, most experts thought he should go for the sure thing in B-Roy. Ed Davis missed his last year of college with a wrist injury, and didn't even work out with the team, but BC took him.

Drummond should survive in this league for a long time because of his athletic ability. How good he actually wants to become will be up to him, and it could go either way.

Ross on the other hand looks like a gamer and a gym rat. At the very least he'll be a useful wing option off the bench, heck he already is one. He has as good a chance to a be star in this league as Drummond.

B-Roy was never a sure thing, he went 5th cause of some serious red flags regarding his knees.

Who cares about Drummond right now, I'll criticise BC if he turns into a star but for now I'm digging Ross.

Wrist injury is hardly a risk, especially at #13. Roy was a risk due to his knees which is why he didn't take him (makes my point). Bargnani was not a risk injury wise, attitude wise and was projected to be a top 3 pick......hardly a risk.

Yeah, Thabeet was just long. The fact that he got bodied up physically, and general mediocre athleticism, hurt his chances at a real career.
