The announcers couldn't get off his **** for all those layups and dunks he made in a pre-season game. They make it sound like his shots weren't open.

I guess it's already been said 15 times in this thread before, but I'll say it anyways.

Drummond had some good seqeunces, a couple of blocks, alley oops, and played some okay defense against a flat and uninspired Raptors squad. It doesn't mean anything, and maybe we could hold our praises for at least 15 games into the regular season. Remember Ed Davis averaged 7, 7 and 1 in his rookie season, and he has only regressed. The book isn't closed because he had one okay preseason game against the raps. I hope Drummond develops because the Pistons have been pretty awful and made some bad moves in Charlie V and Gordon, but we're not there yet.

Having signed those two guys set the franchise back years. That's what I meant. Although, I'll admit I had forgotten that they traded him in the first place.

Nah. The answer is Lamb. Lamb is the one that makes 5+ all-star teams while the Raptors shake their head and sell themselves on a longshot 8th seed run

We knew that Drummond is NBA ready and is an athletic freak, so why some of you are so surprised that he contributes right away? Ross made more seance (acording to BC) in a long run..

because most had their doubts he can pt it together otherwise he would have gone a lot higher. One game won't/shouldn't erase those doubts.

I agree, I wasn't all that impressed with Drum last night, I guess I'm the only one.

JV led the game in +/ in his first game action and after missing much of camp....and I don't think any of Drummond's dunks and put-backs where against JV.
You know what that means....all GM's who picked someone before JV last year need to be tarred and feathered. Case closed.

He's hot and cold as per Dan Patrick Show. One game looks great. Next-- he's not interested.

that's exactly the problem I have, everybody said he is NOT NBA ready, that he's very raw, that's his basketball IQ is non existent and that he has effort and consistency issues.

Now, obviously the last part is something worth watching, but on all other accounts, I didn't see it. I saw a guy who moves very well, is very active, very good around the rim and has a massive defensive presence that goes beyond shot blocking - he got his hands on quite a few balls and generally disrupted our offense quite nicely. And he shamed both amir and ed with his strength.

I wouldn't go as far as the BC haters here, I wanted Drummond but I understand the logic. For one, virtually all scouting reports of him were in agreement that he's a bust waiting to happen, second, we already had JV and to draft Drummond was a move to sacrifice short term success, and finally, we were still in the hunt for nash, and ross was a much better fit on paper (although nash/drummond P&Rs may have turned out a better choice ...).

As far as our own rookies, I thought they were pretty good too and they look very promising. It's just that I've seen in Drummond a top 3 player in the league potential and if that would ever happen, it wouldn't be pretty for us. And the fact that 7 other teams ahead of us screwed up is no consolation either ... For him to be as good as that, it will take a lot of things to go right, but from what I've seen already, there's no way this guy will be a bust.

hey man, as long as Lowrey doesnt freeze out Ross, and there is no indication he will, than Ross might well be every bit as good. Its just, man, big huge athletic centers dont come around much.....they change everything on defence. And man, him and JV at 4 and 5...jesus

Even if we had drafted Drummond he's probably the type of player who would bail on us to LA or something in 4-5 years once his stock is through the roof.

Guys, you have to remember that we were clearly one of the teams that passed Drummond up based on most of the big board rankings. He wanted to get back at us and did. Wait until the whole preseason is done to make regular season predictions.

I don't get how most people default to other conclusions (like Drummond is an all-star, we fucked up again) when this is obviously the most sensible conclusion. Both teams played no defense, and I think the score was like 91-90 with like 8 minutes left in the 4th which further backs the non defense argument, and this guy is an all star......dam going on that logic, Lucas is going to be the league scoring leader then this year so we should have no problem finishing 5-7th.........

Drummond's bust potential was always very overstated. When you have those physical tools you're almost a guarantee to be an NBA rotation player. There isn't enough centers in the league - someone will always want a guy who can play above the rim defensively and finish lob passes offensively. Furthermore Drummond was like the best post defender in college statistically. Even that skill alone, assuming it translated, would've guaranteed him a 10 year career as the guy you stick on Howard and Bynum
