Look, the NBA Draft is a diligent process. Teams don't just show up and pick a name out of a hat. There is months and months of scouting involved, of getting to know each and every player. When it all came down to it, our scouts didn't think Drummond was the right pick. Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong, but I think I'll trust an NBA scout over some messageboard GM's anyday.

And for those of you who are crying over Drummond, I've got two words for you: Jonas Valanciunas.

Yeah that's why I would call Bargs a very good player not a great one. I still think everyone expected a bit better from him at this point other than his solid beginning last year. But I'm not gunna argue about your first point, it's probably right. I'm just going by what I hear about him.

it's not hindsight. these are and were the concerns the moment BC passed on him. with a player that age, size with his athleticism, you'll have a good three-four year window before you'd lose value on him, it's a very low risk move for a pick that deep into the draft. BC was just lazy and uncreative.

having two rookie big men is really poor reasoning. if your coaching staff was unable to handle a task like that, they're inept.

i like ross, and i did before he was a raptor. it's not a matter of dwelling, it's stating a concern of how the draft was handled by the staffing that will continue to make these same decisions down the road.

Of course it's hindsight. It's easy to say he should have been picked because it's so easy in this case to say what could have been. I think it's pretty obvious that BC didn't choose Drummond because having to rookie centers pretty much guarantees one of them not panning out here, neither of whom could play PF btw. So while it's easy to criticize, we would have lost out either way. This option (drafting Ross) if it pans out is better in the long run, while drafting Drummond would have only been a safe choice by making sure we have to viable starting centers for the future.

10 pages? About a player on another team (in the raptor section) who's played what, 50-60 minutes of pre-season ball? This reminds me of Jennings in his rookie year when he took off early and many were saying it was a huge mistake to take Derozan instead.. Lol

If BC passed on Drummond just to "play it safe" and save his own ass then I hope to God we don't resign him.

How was Drummond a major risk? He didn't have injury concerns like Oden... he wasn't a headcase like Cousins.... he wasn't fat like Curry.... and he wasn't a stiff like so many bigs coming into the league.

BC whiffed on this one... plain & simple.

How much do wanna bet that if Drummond was a euro he'd have been drafted by us? lol...
Is Derozan a euro? Ed Davis? Acy? Ross? Heck, even go back to Phoenix..... Colangelo doens't just draft euros. It's a silly comment that cheapens your entire post.

Drummond is going to be a beast.

This why no matter what, in any draft year you take the best player available. End of discussion.

No comparison between Oden and Drummond coming out of college. Oden shot 62% from the free throw line with his off-hand while his good hand was injured and Drummond shot 20% with his good hand.

If we didn't have drafted Jonas Valanciunas from last year's draft AND was in the same situation, Colangelo would have picked Drummond. However, we already knew Val is joining us from this season and that's why we picked the player we needed.

I don't understand why so many people are going on about this....

1. What if JV turned out to be a bust and couldn't handle the NBA game? Wouldn't you want a back-up plan in place?

2. Considering how valuable legit C's are (look at what teams are paying to try and get one) you don't think it'd be a good idea to have more than one (at a cheap price) if you could?

3. Who says that Drummon/Bargs/JV couldn't all split minutes between the 4 and 5 spot?

Again... if BC passed on Drummond because "we already had a C" then it's high time he was given his walking papers.

Totally agree.... too many get caught up in Ed and Amir taking two spots when they actually should only be taking up one. I think we could have traded Ed for a later pick and still have gotten Ross..... Now that would have been awesome! Ed and cash for a mid first.... oooooeeeee!!!
