Default DraftExpress: Triano a Lock to Be Rehired, No Go for Messina

Ettore Messina’s chances of coaching in the NBA next season appear much slimmer these days than they did a few months ago, and he didn’t appear to appreciate me bringing up the topic in the press conference following the game.

“I’m happy for the good publicity all of you are making with this gossip. Until some of this gossip will result in an actual phone call, we’re talking about nothing,” Messina announced in a stern tone.

“If all the gossip leads to the fact that no one calls me, then that’s a problem,” he added.

With the Sacramento Kings looking exclusively at coaches with NBA experience, the Toronto Raptors a lock to rehire Jay Triano according to sources, and the Nets having decided to stick with Lawrence Frank, it’s difficult to see a spot that Messina fits in at the moment.

Barcelona is rumored to be an option for Messina, should they fail to win the ACB championship, and his hometown team of Armani Jeans Milano will also reportedly make a very strong push to get him back in Italy, as they may increase their budget substantially with new contributions for their main sponsor Giorgio Armani. According to Messina, “my first idea is to talk with CSKA.”

i dont want triano he just isnt ready for this position yet and he is to much of a calm coach who just sits back and watches the game instead of telling players what to do but i do give him credit for letting andrea bollosom and gharam as well

The final game just ended on the delayed broadcast here on RapsTV. I missed the signs of pure wizardry. And he looks like he might be pretty hard to work with.

I don't see his coaching mastery too
if anything we should look to hire the panathanikos coach
Messina couldn't draw up a play for the last shot and couln't guard the perimeter
BC will give Triano a year with a new roster just like he did with Smitch

I think Triano should get a 1 year contract. The reason I think this way is because I still think Triano should be given a chance to prove himself with a whole season and hopefully a season with no injuries *knocks on wood*. If not then don't re-sign him next season

I think a 1 year deal for Triano is fair. 2 years max.

I agree with everything you said except for Bargnani. Bargnani was given the chance to blossom, only because JO went down for 6 months and instead of starting Jake Voskhul (lol) they started Bargs the #1 pick, he and he alone took advantage of the opportunity. He ran with it.

Perception is everything. Bargnani claims that, even when Mitchell was coach, Triano showed confidence in him.

While there's no doubt that JO going down gave Bargs the opportunity to play more, Triano's attitude toward Bargs undoubtedly helped. Having the head coach in your corner is a huge thing for many young players; Mitchell's "tough love" worked great for Bosh but not so well on Bargnani.

As for Triano, the players and people from his past all say that he projects a quiet confidence, and has all the qualities of a coach. Mitchell was a true "player's coach," but his attitude and lack of NBA head coaching-level strategy got him fired.

For a "LOCK", this is taking an awful long time, no?

When was BC supposed to meet with Messina?

It was supposed to be during the Euroleague Final Four and that has already passed so I doubt anything good came of the meeting
