NCAA Draft Express: Lithuania U19 Team Would Be NCAA National Champs

More Raptor related then NBA related so its in this section...

Looks like Jonas is really turning some heads... hearing he's the "steal of the draft" is looking more and more likely...

Anyway... Can the U19 team really beat the reigning NCAA National champs?

Quote:
The Lithuanian under-19 national team has been turning heads all week in the FIBA U-19 World Championships in Latvia. Led by Toronto Raptors draft pick Jonas Valanciunas, they made quick work of the Russian team that shocked the US a few days before.

At the end of the first half, Lithuania was up 53-26, getting 15 points and 9 rebounds from their star center.

When asked about how they would fare in the NCAA, Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, one of the leading draft-evaluation sites on the internet, said they would be the best team in the country.

speculations. But you never know.
The fact is, in junior competitions a lot of scrubs can look solid. In the other hand, Morrison, Archibald, Tractor Traylor, Diop also dominated NCAA...
Lithuania is damn beast indeed. I bet Pukis will ball in NCAA, but here, he really looks lost, nowhere close to Cizas, Redikas and Ulanovas.

They would beat this year's champs, UCONN, although would lose to other historical champions such as Florida when they had Noah, Al Horford, Brewer and co.

Jeremy Lamb played for the title-winning UConn team I believe.

I'm all for Jonas and the die hard fans of Lithuana, but the team has lost two games already to the US and Serbia.

- Lithuania lost to the US by 2 and beat them by almost 30 in a friendly game.
- Lithuania lost to Croatia, not Serbia.
- Lithuania beat Serbia earlier this week and hopefully will beat them again tomorrow

But yea, LTU U19 wouldn't beat teams such as UNC, UCONN, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida when they are loaded with first round draft picks. I do think they can beat teams like this years' UCONN. I kind of Cizauskas tries to play in the US.

If we know anything about college basketball, it's that anything can happen - as evidenced by this Gus Johnson soundboard:

Gus Johnson rocks. Favorite announcer. Sucks CBS didn't bring him back cause of $$ and he is now with Fox. No more CBB for him(except Big 10 games) which is his best sport.

Croatia actually.

But where are those teams now? In tournaments like this it is not about win-loss ratio. I am actually happy for losing to Croatia. The team felt like they had no competition in this tournament, and losing in group games sometimes helps. The most important thing is winning in play-offs.

I just watched the finals game.

Lithuania wouldn't be far off. In fact it's not at all off base to say they could compete at the final four. What a solid team. Strong.

And JV. Well, this kid is better than I thought. He WANTS to win.
