Doug Smith: To tax or not to Tax?

Doug Smith in his blog today broke down the Tax issue and said, don't expect the Toronto Raptors to be a tax team anytime in the near future. Last season
nine teams paid taxes and only three won a playoff round. Mind you 2 of those teams were the Celtics & Lakers.I didn't know this but the Knicks payed an astounding 20 million in taxes and that got them a whoping 23 wins.20 million? WOW,Talk about piss poor management! I knew they went over but that's rediculous even for them especially for what they got out of it.

Spending over the luxury tax threshold doesn't guarantee you success but as the Celtics and Lakers showed, it can work. Its all a matter of how good the GM is at identifying talent. Personally I'm not so sure then need to spend much more money. They're not going to get a big time wing player with the MLE.

The knicks payroll was like $88 Million and the Salary Cap was somewhere around i think $57 Million. Poor Knicks. And they are trading a guy like David Lee who only takes up about 1% of the pay. Think about guys like Jared Jeffries, Curry, Randolph, Quentin Richardson, the list goes on and on. I think the Raps should go over the tax if they can be better and go to the finals llike the Lakers or Celtics, would you rather have the Championship or and extra 3-5 mill, but not 20 mill.

Well, that's the Knicks for ya.

I wasn't expecting the Raptors to be a tax team.
