Default Doug Smith: Raptors too enthusiastic?

Quote:
I’m wondering if the Raptors aren’t going to get a call from the league office sometime about the rather over-the-top pre-game histrionics that are becoming a tradition around these parts.

As the hug-a-thon was going on – with guys at the scorer’s table, in front of the bench and wandering out to midcourt – referee Greg Willard was standing not 10 feet in front of me, entirely unimpressed.

“Come, let’s go,” he said a couple of times.

And then when Sonny Weems climbed up on the table to get the crowd going – a new touch – Willard stood there, rolled his eyes and I imagine he’s thinking, ‘yeah, I need to let the folks back at the office know about this.’

Now, I’m all for the enthusiasm this group of Raptors has, it’s nice to see and is better than the ‘ho hum, let’s get started’ attitude we’ve seen in the past. These guys do like each other, they cheer for each other regardless of their roles and that has to be a good thing.

But maybe toning down the pre-game stuff just a tad would be a good idea.

boo-urns. what's next dougie? they should just sit there and not crack a smile? only in toronto can a surging team be criticised for being happy about it and wanting to get the crowd involved.

Well I guess I am a fuddy duddy, because I find it a little over the top. Not the pregame much, but the falling all over each other when someone does something good, and rolling around on the court. I think its a little much...only a little mind you.

You can kind of see Rasho sitting behind them saying "act like you have scored before fellas....its just the Kings."

I noticed the falling over each other too.

I thought it was a bit much to do it after every play good play.

I thought I saw Reggie pointing at them to sit down or maybe he was pointing at Rasho to stand up. I don't know.

I hate when other teams do it against us.

Today I was watching the game in 6 minutes video, and some moments were kind of embarrasing, it annoys me when other teams do it, Ill have say something when my team does it. I appreciate the good ambient though.

Better then guys like Graham and Kapono just sitting there. I'm liking the enthusiasm from our young players, they like each other and it's great to see them get excited imo.Sometimes it's a little over the top, but i'll take it. Better then what we saw the first month of the season which was nothing like this.

Sometimes it gets goofy with one guy trying to "out-celebrate" the other guy.

Nailed what? Rasho isn't the least bit entusiastic on a good day. The guy looks half asleep.

Dude, whatever

they are winning.

i don't care if they are giving each other massages with happy endings on the sidelines. As long as they win.

I love seeing the comradery (sp) and enthusiasm, but the dancing and partying is a little extreme and does look unprofessional.

Still, it's cool to see the boys genuinely enjoying each other's company. You can see that translating well on the court.

Surely, there is something in the middle of the two extremes.

And people wonder why the sporting crowds in this city are farely quiet and are basically just reactionary. Isn't this the city where at most sporting events fans are told by security to tone it down if they get too rowdy?

it gives devlin something to talk about, keeps him busy and prevents stupid stats like: "60+ blocks and 60+ 3pts made"
