Raptors Doug Smith: Raps may use amnesty on Kleiza

Boy, cutting Lowry....really douche smith? Even you can do better than that.

Quote:
The general manager met with Kyle Lowry on Saturday and still has to decide whether or not to exercise an option on the final year of the point guards contract. The Raptors can save more than $5 million by cutting Lowry adrift, although it would leave them with no point guard on the current roster.

As well, Ujiri may want to use the NBAs one-time amnesty clause, the most likely target being forward Linas Kleiza.

lol

This is what I mean about Doug Smith. He's either just fuckin' lazy or a complete dumb dumb. Ok, we cut Lowry...then what? We'd still be over the cap and have no PG. Oh and there is the fact that we could get something for him.

He reported the situation and does not offer an opinion either way.

How is that being a douche?

What situation? Do you honestly think anyone in that organization has contemplated cutting Lowry? Really? The thing is, this is Doug Smith in a nut shell. He throws that out there, but doesn't give details on the cap situation, doesn't bring up the 1mil buyout...nothing. He throws it out there for the sake of writing shit, says.....but we'd have no PG and goes onto the next thing...no depth, no follow up or reasoning to that asinine comment. Doug Smith is a hack.

They traded him, they didn't cut him. I wouldn't be surprised we traded Lowry, new management and all. But cut him......come on son.

And don't try to tell me that he meant trade when he said cut.

dude, there's been reports for the past year that the celtics might be cut pierce because his contract wasn't fully guaranteed. these reports came from all news sources because they were reporting an option for the celtics to pursue. it's not different than what smith is doing. he's not saying cut him, he's reporting what could happened and what the options are.

No way MU is cutting Lowry, he's got value in this league.

If we can get value for Bargs the way he's played in the last few years, we can get value from anyone

Warning: small mini-rant coming.

Here's the thing I don't get from people who criticize Doug Smith et al.

In this town and ON THIS BOARD, I read how all we ever fucking read about is hockey. Yet, when you read his blog, he actually stands up for and proudly supports Canada basketball. He essentially argues that we DO pay too much attention to hockey. For many of you, he's actually an ally in the media, in a market obsessed with one sport.

Oh but he's a hack right? Have any of you EVER worked with the media before? Can you distinguish between his blog and his articles? Do you know the difference? In his blog, he quickly reports. It's what he he's heard, not what he's confirmed through multiple sources (which he does in his articles). In his blog, he passes along tidbits, smart considering the point of a blog is to generate discussion (in this case the value of essentially cutting Lowry or whatever). Guess what his editors (and the business people) want to generate as much web traffic as possible. His actual stories, yeah they get printed the old fashioned way in the paper (and then on the web) and they're researched and confirmed.

Yet, instead we call him a hack and essentially worthless. Are you kidding me? Are some of you NEVER entertained? Oh wait, you're on sentence (poorly written) prose should be considered the gold standard right?

Here's the thing, is he a bit of a curmudgeon? Absolutely and it's something that's becoming ever increasingly popular in Toronto amongst sports writers and something I don't frankly get. We want to have a discussion about that then sure, let's do it. But understand that as some of you run him out of town (or would love to) there's no one in Toronto papers and I mean no one who defends the game of basketball (not only the Raptors) as much as he. And don't say Bruce Arthur, Erik Koreen, Michael Grange and even Cathal Kelly who for the most part get co-opted to write about hockey, discuss hockey and sometimes analyze. Smith, always and I mean always, dedicates the early portion of his blog to the game of basketball.

And this isn't only to jeff, but to the whole crew who think he's worthless and a 'hack'. Give me a break....

/end rant

He isn't that good but at least he covers basketball.
