Bryan Colangelo likes what Jay has accomplished and all indications are that this deal will be done quickly. Jay will get a 2 year deal and a third year team option starting at around $2 million.

Doug Maclean then said he heard that Marc Ivaroni is a lock to be the lead assistant and that he's already got a condo here or is looking. Doug Smith agreed and it seems that this is public knowledge among those close to the team.

Apparently, Gord Herbert will be back but the rest of the staff will probably move elsewhere. The staff this year was too passive and Ivaroni will make some noise and bring intensity to the staff.

Thank god the staff is changing. How many times this season did we have players playing that should have been resting from injuery? how many times did they come back to fast and reinjure themselves.

I used to be in the anti-Triano camp in the past. Now i'm coming around to the direction that he has this team moving in. It's certainly a case of too little, far too late, but the fact that we have seen some progress has given me cause for optimism.

I noticed the change specifically when Ivaroni came in.

I'd be interested to see what these guys would do with a full training camp and season.

Fantastic. Our goal(s) are to be better than Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit and Miami. Whoooo! So 5th place in the conference? Awesome. Mediocrity all the way!

But I forgot, Triano is awesome. The coaching staff is awesome. The roster as constructed is awesome.

Yup, let's keep the status quo.

We are awesome.

Haven't you heard? We were merely victims of circumstance.

Oh right Acie. I completely forgot about that!

It's our circumstances to blame! How dumb of me! I wonder if we can blame the circumstances on the economic crisis as well?

Seriously though, I'm beginning to hate, literally hate, this team and what we're settling for.

i know im in the minority, but i actually like Triano and love that fact that Iavroni will be assistant.
we were ready to make him our head coach a while back, but now we get him as assistant and also keep triano as the main boss.

Our guys react well to Triano as a players coach and look at the strides AB has been able to accomplish under him.
throw in Iavroni who will act as the 'bad cop' and you're set.

Another coach without a whole lot of experience or wining background. Nice!

Can we shoot for 40 wins next year and either squeek into 8th or get 9th + shitty pick.

defense is still the worst part of this team and a coach has only so much to do with how much effort and willingness the players have in playing defense
on the offense jay has been satisfactory and i'm not going to complain about his willingness to just let the players play on offense and try to push the ball

Actually we ended the season near the bottom of the league in fast break points (last i believe), i heard this on hoops yesterday, and near the bottom on defence as well, so i don't see how we improved much on either side of the ball.

i just said he tried to push the ball, that doesn't mean the players necessarily did what he wanted consistently and when they did we all know they failed a lot at scoring, but i'm just talking about pushing the ball, not so much fast breaking to score
i'm talking for that he wanted guys to get the ball over the half court quicker, i couldn't handle this walk the ball up the court thing where we end up getting like 10 seconds to make a play when we could have like 20 seconds to set up a play
besides, the guys were so used to the walk the ball up style that when they pushed the ball they looked confused a lot of the time, but you can't argue it was a lot better to watch

Really? I don't know why they would, the previous two seasons they were a more up tempo team, especially in 06-07 which had alot of the same players, mainly Bosh/Bargs/Jose. But even last season we weren't at the bottom of the league in fast break points and we weren't a walk the ball up kind of team. At least not like we were at the begining of this season, which was because of the trade for JO.

Except for the hate part, i agree about settling. If Mitchell gets another job, which is likely imo BC should go out and get an experienced coach instead of keeping an inexperienced coach who's never won a thing like Triano and another inexperienced coach with no track record of winning as his assistant to hold his hand.

Blind being led by the blinder! Well, i guess blind is blind but........?

You're being generous Claudius. 7th spot at best if we're sticking to the status quo.

I like the addition of Iavaroni. Phoenix had some of their best years when he was at the assistant coaching position, so hopefully he can have some sort of meaningful impact.

Even though most of you have already passed judgement on him I'd personally like to see Triano coach one full season before giving my opinion on him since he has to be acclimated to the nuances of being a head coach and have significant familiarity with his core pieces of his roster by now. Triano's biggest flaw is definitely his inability to instill mental toughness on to his team, if he or Iavaroni can somehow manage to do this, I don't see the Raptors being a bad team at all.

Triano has to work on a few things... But that doesn't mean that there isn't room for improvement. For all of those who wished that Sam Mitchell were still here probably wanted him burned alive during the 04-05 season, but the thing is was that he needed time to improve himself as a head coach.

I'm still skeptical about Triano being the coach but I do agree with the players that he deserves a training camp, but the problem is we could hire a veteren coach who has the respect and track record of winning or we can take a risk hire Triano as a head coach

lets hope if Triano is coming back that they play the sam style they played in the last 12which is great ball movement instead of the ball sticking

If there's one thing that I've absolutely HATED about this season it's that it's turned most of our fanbase into absolute "defeatists". I don't mean to single you out CG but I can't possibly understand how one CAN'T see the progress that was made over the last weeks of the season.

The product on the floor to begin the season was flawed... no one can really argue that. The JO trade didn't work out as well as we'd hoped... but injuries to key positions also played a HUGE role in the downfall of the Raps.

The criticism that Jose received for most of this year was RIDICULOUS. People were doubting as to whether or not this guy was even an NBA-calibre starting PG or if he was just destined to be an OK backup. All this... because he was injured. Then he gets healthy and boom! He's giving guys like Derrick Rose all he can handle and slashing to the bucket the same way that he did last year. His glaring defenisve issues also became ALOT less glaring once he could move laterally again.

The addition of Marion was HUGE for this squad... HUGE. We got another "all-star" calibre player with playoff experience who could defend multiple spots on the perimeter AND rebound the ball. His passing and post game also proved to be nice surprises too. Most of all AP could go back to what his role was SUPPOSED to be... role player.... rather than "Number 2 option".

The addition of Pops also benefitted the team greatly. More rebounding... more energy.... more defense... all things that we desperately needed.

The SUBTRACTION of guys like Moon & Solomon who played major minutes for us in the first half of the season and shouldn't have.

The emergence of Bargs as a legit starting C and force on the floor. Much improved on both ends and playing with confidence.

The dominance of Bosh down the stretch. Game-winning jumpers... game-saving rebounds... with some legit help on the team now he didn't HAVE to do EVERYTHING for us to win. And teams couldn't always key in on him and him alone anymore. It helped his game... and it showed.

Then there's also the time that it took for guys to adjust to Triano and for Triano to adjust to them.... AND for the team to bring the new players (Marion and Pops) into the fold...

As frustrating as this season has been, if BC manages to bring back all the key pieces, add a few more cheap ones, and they manage to stay relatively healthy next season there's really no reason NOT to think that this team shouldn't be vying for homecourt adv. in the playoffs.

I know that some (probably most lol) will write me off as a homer and I'm fine with that but I'm fully prepared to wait until this time next season (as we prepare for the Raps' first playoff game) to say "I told you so".

well then honesyly, get out your pen and write the solution to BC personally. Don't give away the ending or he'll steal it.

Once your quick fix for fiscal and performance related instant success if realised, you'll be drggaing in 2 million a year, and will be able to buy all of us tickets for nexts years games!!!!
