Default Dont expect Marion to be the answer

Because he isnt. Hes a rental for half a season so BC can get the cap space he wants to try and build around Bosh and be successful for next year so he can convince Bosh to stay and hopefully build to make us contenders.

The only way Marion works in the longhaul is if we somehow get a Rip Hamilton or Michael Redd in the offseason as well and be built like the Pistons were with 5 capable GOOD players at each position which I dont think is really possible with the salary cap era.

We're still unbalanced on the offensive end, and we'll still get hurt in close games with no closer.

We'll look better on defence and win more games than we did with JO, but I really hope BC doesnt fall for that and become convinced that Marion is part of our longterm plans because the way the team is built and how big headed Marion is in thinking hes worth so and so and how big his role should be, he really isnt the answer to any of our problems.

I, for one, don't expect him to be great just better then Moon... that with his expiring contract is better then Moon, JO and no flexibility this summer.

Let him at least put on Raps' uniform first before we call him a 'failure'...

Any plan that doesnt invovle Bosh resigning this summer, is a bad plan. Trying to impress him next year will = getting little to nothing when he walks.

Enough said Thirlls .... I think almost everyone here understands why the deal was made. Nothing really to do with Marion but the flexibility this summer for BC to start making a contender while the rest of the league focus and obsess with the summer of 2010.

Marion IS the answer, if he stays (highly unlikely). He'll gel in this group quick. watch

Yea, it looks like in this economy, getting anyone to take your 21 million contract for an expiring sounds like a miracle for most owners. Even an all-star like Shaq looks hard to move.

This is clear damage control that BC had to do... the JO trade was the fuckup. Ugh I can't believe we gave up two extra mid round 1sts between this deals... dammit BC... eff off.

Doc, how do you build a contender if you let Marion go? what similar skill player would sign here?

you gotta spend extra to get something extra but i dont see who replaces Marion next year and satisfies everyone,s appetite for a GOOD athletic deffense offense SG-SF.

That's not what our appetite is for though... I agree with Thriller... he will win us a few more games than JO because he strengthens a weak position but he's not the answer to our problems. What we NEED is an athletic slasher that can get us easy points late in the shot clock...and defend the perimeter. Marion is only half that equation.

Oh, he's definitely not the answer, but he's another quality guy to surround Bosh with.

If he asks for crazy money, why would you re-sign him? At most, I'd give him a 3 year contract.

Marion does instantly become the Raps best wing player - as sad as that fact is.
Their offense will need to incorporate Marions strengths which are in the open court.
I hope they push the ball more. When Jose gets back he'll need to loosen up a bit or Marion will be out of place here like in Miami.

How is that sad, he has career numbers of 18pts/10Reb. I'm happy considering the shit we have on this team this is a major upgrade and him ad Joey are a pretty good SF tandum if Joey can continue to be agressive. We had Moon as our SF.

If Wade doesn't take 25+ shots per game he'd average 15pts to go with his 9reb per imo. Huge upgrade (probably short term) over Moon!

Marions career averages are boosted by playing in Phoenix's high tempo offense and Nash. The rebounding #'s are good though. Definitely an upgrade over Moon but that's not saying a hell of a lot.

considering we are shifting those stats from the pos tto the wing, and we have post gys to fill in that gap, you're bang on, Thriller is smoking drugs again.

He may leave, he may be re-signed, who knows. You have to wait and see. But to say Marion cannot help a team who are BEGGING for help in this position is a bit off base. A guy like him is a solid piece to any team.

it makes things interesting to say the least

What if he comes here and clicks with Jose/Bosh/Bargs?? I'm not saying he's a saviour, or that he'd re-sign. But if it works out and the starting 5 has chemistry, who knows?

I don't think it's out of the question to resign marion this summer. The market for free agents will be horrible this summer, and marion might even be had for MLE + 10% ... I think Marion at 8/yr is fantastic value. We would still need to go after a scoring SG, and maybe we can work a S&T with the bulls for gordon. Yes, we'd be weak defensively in the backcourt, but on offense we'd be extremely strong. We might not be favorites to win the title, but at least be strong enough to keep Bosh. Once the economy recovers, we can tweak this some more, maybe roko develops into a good player/asset etc.
