Default Do you keep Weems?

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, the Raptors have until January 10th to make a decision on the roster, i.e whether to guarantee some contracts or not.

I know Weems is on that list. So, do you keep him?

He's looked pretty mediocre this year and seems to be trying to hard. Do you cut loose, maybe find someone in the D and give that guy a shot?

For his current salary you keep him. The danger is offering a big one next year...he really hasn't shown consistantly he deserves it and i still maintain he's kinda redundant with DD on the roster. Going forward if Weems is more than an 8th man we're not a very good team.

nah i wouldn't just release him before the season is out. That would be a pretty cold move for a guy the team supposedly put a lot of faith in before the season - after all they put his face up on banners as their marketing campain and one would assume they don't do that with just anyone (although you could argue they did in this case).

Anyways, he is still a good, athletic young player. When he plays within himself (which he has done for a large chunk last year and early this year) he can be an effective guy.

Now when it comes to contract negotiations for next year and beyond.... Colangelo better not even entertain the notion of overpaying Sonny. I know he's Demar's BFF, but he better not get any ideas of being close to Derozan's pay scale. If so, then see you later.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better player in the D League. He's already proven, albeit not consistently, he can play and actually start and be effective in the big leagues.

I wouldn't hesitate to include him as a sweetner in a deal, but I also don't think it'd be bad to let him play out the season. If he finishes the season strong you've got a nice player on your hands and you have the potential to resign him or possibly do a sign and trade and if doesn't play well you can just let him walk or sign him on the cheap as a end of the bench guy.

keep him.

as far as stats go, he`s already improved across the board. seems like his inconsistency could have something to do with injury or maybe feeling the need to force shots to find his rhythm.

The guy had one of the best fg percentages in the league for a pretty good stretch. It would be nice to see if he could recover that form.

I think we're starting to see that DD needs all the minutes he can handle. Weems is a nice trade piece within a larger deal, and losing his talents (to South Beach or elsewhere) would not be that big of a loss for this team. He definitely shouldn't be overpaid, but I could see many teams offering a humphries like deal around 3y/9M... just hope it's not us. You want a SG to be able to attack the rim and stretch the floor... Weems doesnt' really do either.

NO

I would let him playout the season and then make a decision on him. But if it's up to me he'd probably be gone next season, depending on if he can prove to be more consistent at both ends the rest of the season. And if we keep him, he better not get much more then 2Mil/yr.

I would keep him, but I wouldn't play him with DD unless they're going small. Having Weems come off the bench for DD would be effective.

for cheap, yes.
this was his season to break out and get a few extra dollars on a new contract in the offseason, and so far he's come up short... so i think he knows his worth (as do the raps) and we'll lowball him.... and he'll take it.
he's a decent 8 man off the bench.

I'd move him with our first rounder for Mayo.

for cheap - yes, but he'd also have to be buried deep in the bench as like a backup to a backup
i really don't like the demar/weems combo, weems really takes away from demar's growth, there's too much reliance and following by demar with weems here

i'm not sure i'm that keen on that trade, 1st rounder seems a bit high of a price, but barely, i may do that trade, but i'd be wrestling for a while with it

lets just say i won't drive him to the airport or pay for his flight, hahaha

i'm just not that convinced with OJ Mayo, he's a little bit of a "all me" type of player who doesn't necessarily play the team game, which is why i think he comes off the bench now for the grizzlies because off the bench he doesn't have to play the team game as much since the bench can rely almost solely on him, to me he's like a poor man's version of jr smith, maybe not that poor but still a similar version of jr smith

Generally agree with most -- keep and, if the price is right this summer, ink him. But with Weems you never know. In game, he makes one shot and his mentality shifts from scrub to Kobe. That being said, I'm guessing he'll ask for the max, and that's just a little radical IMO.

+1

If he had a longer term contract already, I don't think he would have been such a ball-hogging douche this season. The guy can play. He is not great, but he can contribute to a team.
