Angry Do the Raptors have a legitimate gripe about the schedule?

From Doug Smith:

Quote:
The schedule is what the schedule is and all the teams will have a chance to complain at some point.

But there are murmurs around the Raptors about the stretch they are currently in that actually has some merit.

Denver played last Friday and was off, sitting at home waiting, before getting Toronto last night.

Utah hasnít played since Saturday and has been off, sitting at home waiting ever since, for Toronto to arrive to finish off its back-to-back.

It doesnít excuse lack of effort or shoddy preparation but it is something people with the team have noticed.

When the Raptors finish in Utah tonight they will have played one-fifth of their road schedule and the season is just three weeks old.

Legitimate.

However, unless I am mistaken, schedules are based on previous sesons performances, leaving the worst teams last season with an easier second half schedule and the best teams from the previous sesons with the harder second half schedules.

So, Unless I am mistaken, if the Raps want an easier schedule next year they need to perform better this seson than last.

everybody has their rough and soft spots in their schedule
everyone plays 82 games and they start the season and end it at the same time
everyone has road trips
stop bitching
play defense
win

You can say whatever about its better to start with a tough schedule. but this doesnt help at all the confidence of the team. Like, someone mentioned in another thread, every year is the same.

Being only 2 games under .500 is not that bad considering the games will get easier from friday on.

but yeah - i agree it's a shitty way to start the season and considering how important the early games are to a team that is learning how to play together, this certainly doesn't help us.

However, if for some fluke we win today, we will be in a very good position.

Easy to think so in the middle of this tough stretch.

One of those stat geeks needs to go through all 30 schedules and rank games based on above 500 and below ... and back to backs...and days off....and come up with a "Difficulty Rating".

If I am a betting man, I'd say everyone is about equal.

2 games under? You're writing them off already for tonight? Considering the schedule and the better play of late, last night excepted i'm optimistic about this team doing well.

I'm not sure if you misinterpreted what i was trying to say, but yeah - i'm with you. I think we should be pretty optimistic about things in light of this shitty schedule.

I don't think the Raps need a fluke to come out on top tonight. Utah hasn't been playing great basketball, with a solid showing on defense and less shots from Antoine Wright and Sonny Weems, this is definitely a winnable basketball game.

I think teams that get the easier schedule first have an advantage. I'd much rather get the team confidence up, have more practice days and have a better record to show early in the season.

to tell you the truth, i actually like that we strted with a tough sched.
we had like 8 or 9 new players this season, theres no way we were going to explode right out of the gates anyhow. even if we had a cake schedule, the new players wouldve needed time to gel and work out the kinks, and im sure we'd have lost a bunch of games vs easier opponents.
this way, we use the games vs the tough teams to gel and get things right... so when we do play the easier teams; we'll be all set and ready to roll.
right about now, 10 games in, i think our guys are used to each other and are acclimated with one another. this is where we'll begin our run... right around the time the sched eases up. its perfect timing IMO.
as long as the guys havent lost their confidence, then i think we'll be in good shape.

Do you know how they make the schedule?

It's computerized, then it's basically modified when there are conflicts. That part is league disgression, and trust me, the elite get the benefot of the doubt. Toronto does not.

Quit bitching, yes, because nobody in front office cares. Ignore it, hell no.

that's bs, we had only 1 b2b so far, and 3 of our 5 wins were against teams coming off b2b. It's impossible to build a perfectly balance schedule and no schedule stops a team from playing defense

Yeah, starting friday we start a ten day stretch where we play Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, Boston. Much easier????

The only game that can be considered "easy" is Indiana.

December looks much better though.

I heard we played the most road games in the EC. It sucks but that just means that we have more home games during the end of the season. This will help but in the future I hope the Raps can get a more balanced schedule
