Default Do the raptors have "the formula"?

I was reading some interesting articles about the formula of the new nba, and what a championship caliber team "need" to have. The basics is this:

2 for sure all stars
1 borderline or 1 player in the running for sixth man.

IF you look at the last couple of championship teams, they have that formula. This year with the Lakers (2 for sure allstars - bryant and gasol) and one borderline with odom, who was also in the running for the sixth man.

Boston before that. With Peirce and Garnett the for sure allstarts with Allen being the borderline.

The Spurs- with duncan and parker being the for sure's and ginobili being the borderline/sixth man.

Is this a valid formula? Furthermore, I dont think the Raptors have this formula quite yet, they are missing that 2nd for sure allstar, but we have peices.

Well, we do have all that.

Bosh is a for sure all star. We have 3 borderline Allstars in Hedo, Jose and Bargs.

Our 6th man is either Jack, Belli or DD.

well if demar can reach all-star pontential then were set considering your formula works we'll have dero & Bosh as all-stars and drea and hedo as borderlines.

i see the raps formula as being pretty different than that - sort of an offensively focused version of the pistons championship team. no real bona fide superstar, but 4 high quality starters that border on star status (bosh, bargs, 'glu and jose), another two quality pieces (jack and belli) + a promising young wing player (dd). the team will have to be incredibly unselfish and team focused, they'll have to score huge numbers and they'll have to make a serious defensive committment.

it's certainly not the classic formula, but if they can do all of those things they will cause matchup nightmares for other teams and make it difficult to key in on the stars forcing bad players to make shots. if they can do those things, the raps will be very dangerous. but that's a big if.

This team will be a nightmare to defend. And our defence is better then it's been in years with the additions of Jack/Wright/Beli/Evans/Rasho and w/a healthy Jose.

Possible numbers for our top players??:

Bosh 21PPG/10RPG
Bargs 18PPG/7RPG
Hedo 15PPG/5RPG/5APG
Jose 12PPG/9APG
Beli 11PPG/4APG
Jack 10PPG/4APG
Derozan 10PPG/4RPG

= balance

I wonder if we have a more detroit style team. Not in the same mould playwise but in the fact that it is a balanced squad where it's not 1 or 2 guys doing all the damage.

as i see it, this roster is built on a very solid well balanced blend of size and athleticism. we will create a wide variety of headaches for teams as we can run, score off the dribble, attack the hole, play inside out or pick and roll and have a roster full of flat out shooters... Defense will have to be the mantra from day one this year as the O will take care of itself.

the one difference here is that the winning teams have allstars that are near or at the top of the league, our allstar is at the bottom of the allstars

In my opinion, it's a better formula.

That's the main reason why i'm starting to love this team again. Not that i didn't love them before - just now i'm really liking the direction we're heading.

there's no formula - you need quality. SA won two of their titles with just one all star, detroit won without even one. Orlando got to the finals with just one real all star.

some people say that to win a title you need two hall of famers on your team - but again, it's just anecdotal.

Also an all-star duo plus an average supporting cast never works as well.

Denver Nuggets with Iverson and Carmelo.
Philly with Igoudala and Miller.
Cleveland with Lebron and his so called "pippen" Hughes.

In my opinion it all comes down to the coaching, the discipline and chemistry with the players.

I agree with your point but I believe detroits 4/5 starters were alstars that year or the next

As LightsOut mentioned the Pistons had 4 of their 5 starters where all in the allstar game(chauncey, rip, rasheed, ben) so I have to disagree there but I do see your point.

They could have easily had all 5 starters in because Tayshaun is a hell of a player.
