So you don't think that he could duplicate his CHI performances if he was back here as a PG playing 25+ MPG?
You missed my point. If you're a team that's playing him that many minutes just to get the best version of DJ Augustin your team isn't going anywhere. Although he's playing well in Chicago, he's only playing out of necessity. Any below average to average point guard with the opportunities he's currently getting would be producing just as he is.

You could be right.... but it could also have just been a situation where he didn't get much of a chance to prove his worth. Teams make those mistakes all the time. To be clear, I'm not advocating breaking the bank for him, but if he could be had for say $10M over 3 years I'd have a hard time passing over him without a thought.
Again, you're overlooking his fit and role on the team. He's not worth 3 years 10 million playing a backup role on a team, especially if he isn't a primary ball handler, and even if he is, he's barely average. Giving out 3 year contracts to players like DJ Augustin, especially with the cap and tax how it currently is, is GM suicide.

He isn't that good. Don't let his Chicago performance fool you because he wouldn't be playing these kind of minutes for any other good team, because good teams have good to great point guards, unless they're injured.

He ain't getting the same opportunity here as he is in Chicago, and we just had him for $1M for a single season. Hell naw.

So.... if Stone or Buycks would have gone to CHI they'd be doing the exact same thing that DJ is now?

Pretty bold claim.

Thibs is one of the most demanding coaches out there. Fairly sure that if DJ can play for him he could play for a lot of teams.

Just curious, why did he struggle (badly) then under Vogels?

I agree, not to mention Chicago has been playing better since DJ Augustine got there ( Chicago is now 4th in the east). Best off season singing, and Casey butchered his time here.

I said below average to average, meaning a player capable of playing rotation minutes on a decent to good team but isn't going to play extended minutes unless it's out of necessity. Think CJ Watson, Shelvin Mack type of PGs. Not guys who are barely hanging on to jobs in the NBA.

Chicago is playing a lot better because their schedule lightened up, and Joakim Noah has got back to the level he was playing at last year without Rose, putting up double doubles with 5 assists every game. DJ has definitely helped, but again, it's out of necessity that he's playing, and although he's playing good, he isn't playing at a level that a winning/contending team needs from their starting PG.

Again, he's not good enough to be playing 20+ mpg, nor is he comfortable with playing less than 20 mpg in a lesser role. He's not an ideal fit on any team with an above average starting PG.

I'd take 5 years of games as more of a proof than 20 good games ...
And I don't even understand why people are so excited about his stint in chicago, apply his numbers over 20mpg and you have something like 9 and 4 on 41% shooting. Is this really worth a topic?

Great question. Probably the same reason he struggled under Casey? Probably didn't have the confidence due to a lack of consistent minutes and a clearly defined role.

I'm willing to bet that IND would LOVE to have him right now and could have used him all season when Hill was struggling mightily.
