Default Dino Nation: CB4 Was That You?

I have to admit I was pretty taken back after hearing the interview Chris did the day after Sam's firing. Anyone else feel the same way or do you think how he answered the questions he responded properly?

Here's the interview for those who missed it: http://raptorsforum.com/f/showthread.php?t=4751

Here's James' take on it:

As many folks that read the blog are aware I call in to the Hoops show on a regular basis. I had just saw the comments of Chris Bosh on the firing of Sam Mitchell. He was asked a pretty typical media question given the events that have happened. The question was asked if Chris Bosh felt the team was responsible for Sam Mitchell being fired. I expected to hear the typical answer that was given by Bryan Colangelo. That answer is that we were all responsible for what has happened. But that is not what Bosh said. He said a flat out no. This was a choice made by management and the team was not responsible for it. I am not a fan of that. That is not the answer that I expect from the leader of this team. He would go on to defend that the team was only 8-9 and that there was a lot of the season to go. But I just really was disturbed by the comments and the way he said it.

Up to this point in the Dino Nation Blog I have taken the position that I was confident that Chris Bosh would re-sign with the Raptors and I was secure in that belief. I even went as far as to lay into Jalen Rose of ESPN for his comments about Bosh being a lock to join Lebron James in New York with the Knicks. Jalen said he knew and it was a sure thing. The question for me was how on earth would he know. I mean does he know Bosh? Sure and they may even still talk but I really have no idea. But given the character and loyalty that Bosh has shown I dismissed what Jalen said as a way to get ratings for ESPN. I am now not sure if I was wrong or right. Sam and Chris at least seemed to have a great coach and player relationship. I can not understand why Bosh would not feel some element of responsibility for him being fired. I am willing to give Chris the benefit of the doubt. It was obviously a shock to him to see Sam get fired. But who was Bosh angry with in those comments? Is he angry with Sam, was he angry that Bryan fired him? Or just frustrated by the question and the fact his team was in this position at this point.

I think everyone understands what a great season Chris has been having. I am not saying as an individual he should feel responsible for Sam being fired. I think you could build a case that Bosh and his development are a key factor in Sam Mitchell remaining the coach of the Raptors for as long as he did. It all just seems strange and out of character for Chris and I just don't know if it was a case of a bad day or something more. I have always said Chris Bosh is a smart young man and is one of the more media savvy players in the NBA and pro sports in general. I can't imagine he makes a statement with microphones in front of him that is not well thought out. I did not want to become one of the masses living in fear till 2010 but a few more comments like this out of CB4 and I may be on the worry express all the way to 2010. I always write this blog in a way that I try to tap into my honest feelings and emotions at the time I am writing it. That emotion and feeling right now is DEEP CONCERN.

I loved the answer...cause he was right...the blame belongs to Sam "Pick and Pop" Mitchell.

When was the last time you saw a Raptor make a backdoor cut for a bucket?

Fuck Bosh, if firing of Sam got his panties in a twist, then let him go.

Give me Joe Johnson and Chandler instead.

Jose
Joe J
Kapono
Bargs
Chandler

edit:

Although I dont think because he says it wasnt the teams fualt that means he is leaving.

I was a little surprised but he was right...he wants to win and Sam Mitchell wasn't the right guy to coach them to success...

Bargs and that was because Caldy did some quick thinking and he made the pass. The play originally started as a pick and roll

Except he didn't say anything about blame. He said the ones responsible are the ones who made the decision. Which is about as black and white as you can get.

I loved the answer as well, the real answer, not Benzo's version, because he was completely honest, he didn't say yes just for the sake of saying the right thing, he said the team is 8-9, and it's to early to consider the team underachievers.

It's unrealistic to expect yourself and your team to not go through slumps during an 82 game season in the NBA. I'm sure it's not acceptable to Chris, but he's realistic about it. They're not even a quarter of the way done.

It's a positive answer, he obviously still expects the team to do well this year.

And for the record, we had about 4 wide open back door cuts against Denver, Jose was just to scared to throw the ball.

I don't understand why people over analyze things such as one tiny quote from Bosh. The guy can't be expected to pull out elaborate politically correct comments that everyone wants to hear every 2 seconds, he is bound to have a media slip up every now and then.

who really knows. might've been a bad day, might've been mad at bc or sam. thing is, it's still 2 yrs away. things change. right now, he may be in the mindset of leaving toronto in 2 yrs. then he may not be in a few months. or in a year.

so i don't care if he wants to leave now or not. what matters is how he's thinking in 2010. at the actual time when he has to make the decision.

I don't consider how CB4 answers were improperly responded, most of the questions were plain dumb. Like "do you feel guilty for firing Sam?" .... For God sake, CB4 is playing his best season so far, what else do you expect from him? To score 50 or 60 PPG?

I think he was way off! The players need to take some of the blame, other players including JO have said as much. The fact is Sam was not doing that bad a job considering there are 3-4 big holes in this lineup and two of his best players on a not so deep team have been hurt (JO/Jose), neither of which are 100% yet.

Here's a question, if we're 10-7 right now is Sam still here? I say hell yah. If we win the NJ game instead of falling apart, and hold on to one of our significant leads in one of the other games (Boston/Detroit) we'd be 10-7 and Mitchell would still be here. And those games imo were blown by the players.

I say good luck to Jay Triano, because he's gonna need it!

He can only get the maximum! And every legit offer he gets will be the same roughly.Including from the Raptors. It all depends on what happens in the next 8-9 months.

At the end of next summer, if BC hasn't made the right moves Bosh will go into next season (last on contract) with alot of questions and without an extension. Therefore he and BC may have discussions about moving him before next years trade deadline.Possibly a sign and trade?

I'm sure Bosh didn't understand the question. They asked whether BAD PLAY of team caused this. But he understood it as if the team had ASKED for Sam to be removed.
Anyway, he wasn't happy. Whether with the losses or the Sam issue I don't know

who cares if he leaves.

this league is about max contracts I guess, if he leaves, he also leaves a hole the size of a ....max contract!

Which means if he leaves, there lots of money to replace him.

If he leaves we should get a really good wing and put Bargs at starting PF and also get a good center

Actually there is quite a difference between what Toronto can offer and what other teams can offer due to some peculiarities of NBA contract rules (Bird rights etc.). I don't wanna get into the specifics of it, but Toronto can offer Bosh a longer contract with higher % increases in salary each year than any other team, and were Bosh to leave Toronto after his max 2010 contract, he would be eligible for more money since your max is a % of what you made in the previous year.

I didn't do the calculations myself, but over the span of 7 years Bosh could make $30-40 million more in Toronto than any in any other city. I'm not saying he won't be leaving, I'm just saying it won't for the reason that Toronto is unable to match other contract offers (unless they deem him not worth max ).
