Dino Nation: Big 3 is Earned Not Given…Or It Should Be.

So what do you guys think? Have Bosh, JO and Jose already earned the right to be called our version of the Celts "Big 3"? :confused2:

What may look great on paper still needs to translate into the real world.

Chris Bosh wants to take his game and his team to a new level. J.O wants to re-establish that he is an all-star level player in this league. While Jose Calderon needs to prove that he was indeed the better point guard of the Ford vs Calderon debate. These things all need to happen for the Raptors to have the kind of success that G.M Bryan Colangelo expects. Bryan has created a team that he feels can reach that next level and it is now up to the players and coaches to help prove him right.

Not even fucking close.

Garnett>>>>JO
Pierce and Allen>>>Jose and Bosh

3 guys are perenial all/super stars(boston)

our 3 guys are 1 all star, 1 oft injured but good, 1 has never run the team on his own.

Alot to prove on this team, even if all 3 of our guys play to their fullest, it would be argued that they still wouldnt be as good as Bostons big 3.

If Bargs still sucks and Parker continues to decline, we'll be calling them "The Only 3".

rapsfan087 09-22-2008 02:51 PM

Dunno Doc, if you ask if our version can take us to the Championship, I think that with our roster it's very difficult, think that we haven't the quality on the bench out of Bargs (I hope) and Kapono if he doen't start

If the question is if they are going to be the centre of our team, our bread and butter in a good season (I expect to be 4 or 5 seed at the east and to reach the second round at least), I think they are.

They most certainly ARE our version of the Big 3. Keyword being "version".

Anyone cares to dispute the fact that ##4,6 and 8 are the most important players to our team's success this season? ;)

Parker continues to what???

Just To add a bit to what I was saying. When I think of term BIG 3 to me it means an elite group of 3 stars on the same team that could all be a number one player on a different franchise. For Example from football you had:

Akiman, Irvin and Smith

Also there have been examples of big 3's Gone bad from Basketball:

Kidd, Carter and Jefferson

The point main point is though that I don't think you can simply say ok there are the BIG 3 let's go. You need to at least have them prove as a collective group they are good together. Not perdicting DOOM here but till I see the evidence I do not want to slap a label on anyone.

by your own standards, O'Neal and Bosh are qualified then. Jose is not there yet, but you could argue that ray allen is way past that too ... Think about this: garnett/JO/calderon, bosh/pierce/allen -> who'd you take?

Gurk 09-22-2008 10:22 PM

I'd take the the first one, any day

They are definitely not a "Big 3"......

They are the Big 4 (Bosh/JO/JC/Bargs)!!!! :birthday:

If Parker continues to decline as he did until now...
He set career highs in scoring, rebounds and assists and was Raps most solid player last season.
And this will be his contract year. And he already deserves a way better money.

Maybe so, but not a substantial increase by any means. I mean next summer he'll be 34 years old so don't expect anything shocking from the Raptors or any other NBA team when it comes to contract offers. If Parker wants to cash in, he'd have to consider Europe again because he certainly won't get anymore than what he's getting now in my opinion.

Acie 09-23-2008 10:52 AM

I'd like to see Parker become to us what Stackhouse is to the Mavs.

Couldnt agree more, Parker needs to come off the bench along with Moon.

???? and Kaps need to start.

???? unfortunately probably isnt available although I think Adams will fill that role, just like Moon did at SF last year.

Acie 09-23-2008 12:24 PM

Yeah, the unfortunate thing is at the moment we don't have anyone better to start to allow him to come off of the bench in that sort of role.

Thats what upsets me, I just hope that with Kaps starting it mabey gives us more options at the 2. AP needs to come off the bench this season.

Shifty.py 09-23-2008 06:57 PM

why do you want to bench him? He was second scorer last year, he can be 4th scorer now

Snooch 09-23-2008 07:30 PM

I would bench him because it would be better for the team.

Less minutes for him to produce against lesser talent. Manu, Stackhouse, Gordon all play this roll perfectly and I think AP would as well. If Kaps starts then there is more than enough shooting and offense on the court with Jose/Kaps as threats from outside and Bosh Jo o the inside

LX 09-23-2008 08:06 PM

I was just thinking about AP coming off the bench last night. ACIE nailed it with the Stackhouse comparison. I would not be surprised to see things go that way.

Gurk 09-23-2008 08:28 PM

Sam would probably want to do that but thenn who will be the starting SG?
