Devoe Joseph a possible invite to training camp?

LAS VEGAS — Devoe Joseph did just fine for his hometown team during the Las Vegas Summer League.

The Toronto native and former Oregon shooting guard shot the lights out in five games with the Raptors’ summer-league squad.

The 6-4, 180-pound Joseph — who played his final collegiate season for the Ducks after transferring from Minnesota — averaged 7.6 points in only 16 minutes, shooting .519 from the field, .500 from 3-point range and .833 from the foul line.

“I haven’t seen anybody shoot it better than he has in this summer league,” said Toronto assistant coach Johnny Davis, the former Trail Blazer player and coach.

Joseph, signed as an undrafted free agent, saw significant playing time in three games. In those games, he scored 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting in 27 minutes against Houston, scored 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting in 17 minutes against Sacramento and scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting in 19 minutes against New York.

“It went well,” said Joseph, a streaky shooter during his short time with the Ducks. “I got what I came here for — to learn, to become a better player. I felt like that showed throughout the week.”
The Raptors haven’t yet extended an offer to Joseph about training camp.

“That’s up to them,” Joseph said. “I feel I did my part this week, playing hard. I’ll also be ready for any other opportunity.”

“There could be an opportunity there with us,” Davis said. “A lot of things have to happen, but in terms of shooting the ball, he’s got it.

“You always feel like it’s going in when he launches. He’s a guy where right place, right time, he could make it, because he can certainly shoot the ball. That’s a lost art in today’s NBA.”

Head coach Dwane Casey said a decision on Joseph for training camp won’t be made for several weeks.
