Question # 7

Will a full training camp for Head Coach Jay Triano make that much of a difference for the Raptors? Absolutley. First, this is a team with nine new players! Three core players return, Bosh, Bargnani and Calderon. Three other players joined the Raptors during the season, O'Bryant, Douby and Banks. Time on the floor together is imperative. Even without all these changes, it would be important for Jay to have an entire training camp with this team. Jay didn't get that opportunity last season, when he took over he was forced to coach on the fly, make changes in the face of four games in five nights. It's not easy, but by the end of the season the Raptors started to click taking nine of their final 13. Now Triano has a training camp to set the tone, deliver expectations, implement plays that take advantage of his players offensive skill set and demand a defensive mentality. Jay has a close bond with key players with the Raptors, this is essential for any team success. There has to be trust… trust that you as a Head Coach are putting players in the best situation to succeed. Triano has that. The key players on this team respect and trust Jay, which means the rest will follow. Triano will not be alone in delivering the message, he has players that will pick their spots to help carry the banner when times get tough. As a former player and assistant coach, Jay realizes how important it is to communicate with his players. Every player wants to know where they stand, what's expected of them and what they need to do to get better or get more time on floor. They may not like the answer, but they want to know. Some coaches don't want any part of it. However, Triano is a great communicator. He doesn't shy away sharing his thoughts with high-priced and guaranteed money athletes. He will do it face-to-face and in this new edge of communication, yes he will BlackBerry, instant message, text or email his guys. Here's one more thing…conditioning! Triano wasn't pleased with the teams conditioning once he took over last year. That will change.

Hey guys, get ready to RUN!

Tomorrow Question # 6...
