Detroit would like to deal Josh Smith, keep Monroe?

Haaaaahh!!! Dumars is not too bright.....

Report: Pistons would trade Josh Smith if they could | ProBasketballTalk

Quote:

Josh Smith*is having the worst season of his career.Playing far too much small forward, a position he can handle only in select matchups, his defense has really fallen off. Though Smith defends power forwards well, his his lack of speed on the perimeter kills his ability to chase wings around screens. He’s also taking way too many jumpers and not getting inside enough, an issue that exists no matter which forward position he’s playing.

Some of that is Smith fault, and some of that is the Pistons’. But it’s all the Pistons’ problem. The Pistons signed Smith to a four-year, $54 million contract last summer, and they’ll have to pay him all that money – or find someone else to do it.
Quote:

If the Pistons are desperate to trade Smith, that’s something people around the league would know, because that would mean the Pistons are calling around to shop him. That would also jive with*the Pistons’ reported plan to keep Greg Monroe.

Here are a few Smith trade ideas, from least appealing to most appealing from a Pistons perspective:Smith to the Celtics for*Gerald Wallace*(three years remaining on his contract) – with*Keith Bogans*(zero remaining guaranteed years) included to make salaries matchSmith to the Knicks for*Andrea Bargnani*(two years remaining)Smith to the Bobcats for*Ben Gordon*(expiring contract)Smith to the Suns for*Emeka Okafor*(expiring contract whose salary is partially covered by insurance)Some of those players would make the Pistons a little better, some a little worse. But that’s not the point here. These deals are totally about the contracts.

Gordon would be the most interesting deal of the four. The Pistons actually traded Gordon and a first-round pick to Charlotte to clear the cap room used to sign Smith. The Bobcats could really use a power forward, and Smith would fit relatively well in Charlotte. But would Dumars so publically admit a mistake? After all, the series of transactions – trading Gordon and a pick for Corey Maggette’s expiring contract, signing Smith, trading Smith for Gordon – would essentially leave the Pistons nothing to show for their troubles except a lost first-round pick.

In a completely logical world, those previous moves wouldn’t matter. They’re sunk costs. If trading Smith for Gordon improves the Pistons’ outlook now, they should do it.

it's a bad fit.. you can't have Monroe and Drummond as your front court with your small forward being Smith.

It reminds me of the raptors lineup when we had Antonio Davis at the 5, Oakley at the 4 and Corliss Williamson playing SF lol

Alot of rebounds though lol.. but that's one slow lineup

I love how teams just sign talented players or draft top picks for years and then completely shit the bed. What Detroit needs is a whole management overhaul, similar to Cleveland. You can only polish a turd so much, but the fact remains that it is still a turd. Mind you, who wants to play in the city of Detroit or Cleveland if you're not winning anyways?

Yeah, I wouldn't play in Detroit and I don't care where the arena is. And Cleveland is a toilet

The Overhaul in Cleveland hasen't really helped the Cavs much....

Dumars does need to go... Maybe the can go after BC :bc:

In other news, Toronto would rather trade fields and keep Ross ...

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 02-03-2014 12:20 PM

Could be worse... he could trade Monroe and keep Smith.

Lakers need players. Still a half a season left and they're down to minimum required bodies.

Pau Gasol and cash/picks for Josh Smith.

Steve Nash for Landry Fields.

Thug 02-03-2014 12:40 PM

How Dumars still has a job is beyond me.

moremilk 02-03-2014 01:06 PM

I would take on smith if they throw in a draft pick
especially if they take on fields in the process.

smith is a good player, he's just miscast there. Replace amir with smith and we'd have a top 5 defense.

Amir + Fields for Smith + their draft pick.

bjjs 02-03-2014 01:10 PM

If Smith was more interested in playing defense then taking 20' jump shots and scoring points, he might be a better defender than Amir Johnson.

I would rather stick with Amir.

he was pretty interested until he left atlanta. He was a elite defender for most of his career, he's an all star,he's in his prime. He's also a bit of a nutcase, but when properly motivated, he's already shown he can be a key member on a high quality team.

It's a gamble, but it could make us take a big step in closing out the gap to the top teams without costing us any cap space (almost). We'd still have enough money to add one more star to the roster, or 2 very good bench guys. And we'd get a probably lottery pick in the bargain.

bjjs 02-03-2014 01:37 PM

Elite defender or athletic shot blocker? I would be really scared of taking a risk on Smith. Even with his mind right, I'm not sure he is a better fit than Amir. Then their is the free throw shooting.

LOG 02-03-2014 02:39 PM

Don't think that Pistons would give away pick to trade him

And I wouldn't want anything to do with Smith I have a feeling he would destroy our chemistry and ball movement we would see bunch of iso plays where he just chucks away. I had enough of that, having said that 3 team trade would be awesome.

He's probably gone if they don't turn it around this year and make the playoffs.

The funny thing is that once upon a time a young Dumars was viewed very similarly as Ujiri. Someone who's capable to unload bad contracts on other teams and wins trades. Now he's the opposite, he keeps mismanaging the cap. His drafting over the last few years has been very good, to be fair.

TORaptor4Ever 02-03-2014 02:59 PM

Don't know why Mo Cheeks doesn't make a simple lineup change to solve this problem.

Start Singler @ SF.

Make Smith the 6th man.

Yes, Smith might cry about it some but as long as he's still getting 30+ min/gm I can't see it being a huge problem.

moremilk 02-03-2014 03:14 PM

He doesn't have the guts and dumars is probably concerned about his value. Lame duck GMs are dangerous ...

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 02-03-2014 03:17 PM

Don't know who's worse - Detroit when FA opens/starts or Cleveland on draft day. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3...r45xo1_500.gif
