Is Detroit still interested in Calderon?

This article was put up in a thread at RealGm. It's from a year and a half ago and it stated that the Raptors wanted Jose instead of T.J for RIP Hamilton?

Hmmmmmmmmm? Looking back would you do it knowing what you know now?

Quote:
CBS Sports cites a rumor that the Raptors are interested in Rip Hamilton and are apparently offering up T.J. Ford.

June 25, CBS Sports: LSU's Anthony Randolph recently worked out for Indiana and Portland, teams that might be on the outside looking in, as Milwaukee also likes the Tigers forward if Alexander is off the board. If Randolph is still there at No. 11, Indiana will scoop him up and re-open talks with Toronto about a trade that would send Jermaine O'Neal to the Raptors for a package that would include Toronto's No. 17 pick, point guard T.J. Ford and center Rasho Nesterovic. To trade up in the lottery for Randolph, Indiana would have to offer Mike Dunleavy and/or Danny Granger to find an inviting trade partner.

Indiana, knowing Randolph will need some time to develop, could then ship Ford to the Knicks for Lee, as New York is in the market for a veteran point guard and is also talking to Phoenix about Leandro Barbosa. The Knicks could bypass Indiana and entice Toronto with Jamal Crawford for Ford's services. Toronto is also interested in Detroit's Richard Hamilton, but the Pistons would be more willing to deal if Jose Calderon was substituted for Ford.

There are a lot of interesting rumors that are listed by CBS Sports. Although a TJ Ford for Rip Hamilton deal doesn't seem to fit what Joe Dumars has in mind. With the amount of chatter that is developing before the draft, this years NBA draft could be very interesting and followed by an even more interesting free agent season.
There was no link, but here's the thread.

Calderon for Will Bynum and Daye/Jerebko/First Rounder. I think this is whats most realistic and whats best. I really dont like Rip and I think Derozan will turn into stud. So no I wouldnt trade Jose for Rip.

Please no Hamilton. Rip is done. Calderon is still young.

I think if it was going to happen, and I would doubt it, one of their pgs would be coming back. If they're not happy with Stuckey as a starter, he would probably be the guy. But would he be happy off the bench here?

We have to look at the salary implications. RIP Hamilton would be terribe for the Raptors. RIP will be making 10.3 Million this year, and $12,650,000 Million per year for the next 3 years. Yes, his contract runs to 2013. Did I mention he is over 30 years old.

I really don't think we're trading Calderon for average role players.

Amir is our most consistent and hustle player, Reggie is coming back, we have Double B's...why do we need Maxiel? And Will Bynum? Why would we trade Calderon for him..

Who cares? He's a damn good shooting guard!!! If we want to be contenders we need to stockpile talent. The good teams are over the tax and if we are to be good we will need to go over it too. Damn, RIP for Jose and filler i'd do in a heartbeat!

I think RIP is just a winner....and he's all about ball movement and player movement, I think he would gel with our team beautifully...he definetely does not want to be in Mo-town right now....

if we got RIP we would be too stacked....

BC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the pistons will be looking to trade Rip after this season, trust me.
his contract is horrible.... he'll be making like 40 million over the next 3 years, and as Rapman said, he isnt exactly a spring chicken.
paying that much for an aging scorer is not smart. he doesnt provide anything else than about 17 ppg... he barely rebounds, doesnt get assists... he is a one trick pony, and his one trick (moving without the ball), will slowly deminish the older he gets.
overrated.

Just looked at Hamilton's stats:

37 FG% (20% 3PT%)

How the fuck is he shooting those percentages and averaging nearly 18ppg? Even though he's only played 7 games. But still

He's averaging those percentages on a shitty team....the few detroit games I've watched, he's been doing one on one stuff...

IMO in a solid system (which I think we have), he flourishes.

He was a huge part of the Pistons championship team.

And I don't think you can say his age is such a bad thing, look at Ray Allen..these guys are pros and take care of their bodies..look at Kobe

I would trade Calderon (28) for Rip (31) in a heartbeat.

Richard Hamilton has a lot of NBA miles, but look at his body - the guy is a marathon runner in the off season and takes care of his body. He's not exactly carrying a ton of weight on his knees at 193 lbs either. I'd say he's got 3-5 seasons left of 15+ppg left in the tank.

Rip would also be a great guy to set an example for DeRozan - imagine DeMar copying Rip's moves and hustle on O with his athleticism!

If we trade Calderon for Rip, our starting 5 becomes Jack, Rip, Hedo, Bosh, Bargnani. Pretty solid!
