T Wolves Derrick Williams agent inquires about trading him

Giddy up, BC get your ass on this.

Quote:
Derrick Williams' agent, Rob Pelinka, has not formally requested a trade for his client, but he has asked the Minnesota Timberwovles about the possibility of parting ways due to lack of playing time, according to a team source.

The Timberwolves, however, let Pelinka know that they will first wait to see how Williams and Ricky Rubio mesh on the court once Rubio returns from a torn ACL.

"We told him to wait for our team to come together," the source said. "Wait for Derrick to play with Ricky (Rubio). When they played together last year, Williams benefited greatly."

Williams, the No. 2 pick in 2011 NBA Draft, is averaging nine points in just 19.9 minutes per game this season, when he has sat three times because of coach Rick Adelman's decision.

It is most likely that Rubio will return for a home game on Dec. 15 against the Dallas Mavericks.

I'm not opposed to Derrick coming here. But what has he done so far to merit this type of enthusiasm?

Nothing... Except being a 2nd overall pick...

There has to be a reason why a good coach like Rick Adelman is sitting him..

Not a great deal. But he's only 21 and has great potential. I'm a little leary since he's a tweener 3-4 but i think he's worth trading for depending on the price. Plus, he isn't Bargnani.

I liked this guy coming out of college, but maybe it's just me, but he seems really heavy on his feet despite being very athletic. He's got great size for the three, and he'd be a great guy to invest some time into, but my biggest concern is are his feet quick enough. I thought the same about James Johnson at draft time and he proved over time he was able to become quicker on the defensive side of the ball. I could see him being a better offensive player than JJ and not as fat.... but not sure he has JJ's defensive drive.... but these questions generally plague all tweeners.

I don't like the tweener part, but I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him if the price was right. His value has declined considerably since he was drafted in 2011.

They offered him for Batum, but Portland declined. Something along the lines of Ed Davis might work, but they probably want to hang onto him for a guard or as a piece in a bigger trade for Gasol.

Portland is wise, Batum is way way better.

I hate tweeners between the 3-4, but that said he'd be a massive improvement over Bargnani and would fit good with our team. Unfortunately, I don't think Casey could even utilize him properly.

Plus they got what now looks like a good deal for him at 4 years 11.5 per year, with the way he's playing. If he was entering RFA this year instead, I wouldn't be surprised to see a team offer him the max or something close to it.

Portland has a lot of young talented players. They did a good job on that front, seeing how they lost 2 former number 1 picks - Oden and Roy.

He's worth it with his defense too. We should have gone all out last year to trade for him.

He would have looked really nice here. With his RFA status, we might have got him without giving anything substantial in return.

Lowry
DeRozan
Batum
Bargnani
Valanciunas

I'm not trading Davis if I'm BC right now. Not sure why anyone even suggests it. He may be the only good thing that comes out of this year and he's better than DW.

Yeah, Carp actually deserves a massive pat on the back for the Batum talk during the summer. Some people suggested Carp was overrating him. Batum has looked good on both ends. The Blazers have a very solid core in Lillard, Matthews, Batum, and Aldridge. They just have no depth right now, and Aldridge is a bit hurt. They are a few depth singings away from being a tough out in the playoffs, assuming Lillard continues to grow as a PG.

I don't feel bad for Minny losing out on Batum, though. Kirilenko was a real nice pick-up. God do I wish we had spent the Landry money on an offer for AK47. FUCK. Now I'm just getting off-topic. /derail thread/

I wouldn't say Ed Davis is definitively better than Derrick Williams right now. In fairness to DW, he's seen limited minutes with Love there, and could excel in the right situation. The good part of acquring him is that he has a higher ceiling, but with that comes greater risk. I like Ed Davis and he's been playing really well for us in his limited floor time. I can see him filling a Udonis Haslem type role off the bench for us, which is invaluable to say the least. I would try to re-sign Ed in the offseason to a cap friendly contract.

I was one of those guys pulling for a AK47 signing. At 2 years that would have been perfect.

I was saying we needed Batum well before the summer. Was saying we should amnesty Amir to have enough capspace to get him if we had to. Man this team would be far better if our summer consisted of Lowry/Batum/Ross. That is the type of player this team needs. And if Bargs was still shitting the bed we'd be able to trade his ass and not worry about getting a starting SF and could have perhaps instead dealt him for a vetaran scorer off the bench + a pick.

I wasn't sold on Batum in RFA with the amount of money he was looking for at the time. Blazers were going to match so it would have taken giving him something close to the max to get the Blazers to back off. But in hindsight, that would have been a good move for us.
