Raptors Derozan's reputation with officials

Quote:
DeRozan picked up his fifth technical foul of the season on Tuesday Aaron Gray is second on the team with three -- and coach Dwane Casey is warning DeRozan to ease off a little bit.

"I told him, 'You're going to be a young star in this league, you don't want a reputation of going at officials,'" said the coach.

DeRozan often seems to have a case when he complains about non-calls, but that's likely the case for any number of young players.

And while he's done a good job most nights of playing through his frustrations, the periodic outbursts diminish his attempts to earn more respect from the officials, a valuable commodity for a young player

Man speaks the truth. Derozan does need to cool down more often then not.

The reason he doesn't always get the calls is simple ... he doesn't always go to the hole hard. When he goes soft and tries to get the foul vs being physically aggressive, the refs look the other way unless it was extremely apparent.

It's tough for DD given he isn't physically that strong and thus is shy to hit the hole hard. He gets banged around a lot when he does ...

Most young players (and fans) don't seem to understand that there's a reason that guys like Wade and A.I. got as many FTs as they did/do.

It's not because "you're a star and Stern likes you" (otherwise Vince probably would have avgd 10 FTs/gm for at least a few seasons)... it's because they're RELENTLESS when it comes to attacking the rim. They go there ALL GAME EVERY GAME until they start to make to officials look bad if they don't make a call.

DD doesn't do this. Carlito pretty much said as much above.

I don't get it...VC, Bosh, Derozan, Bargnani, JV, future raptor star 2021, 2031...etc.etc. None of them go to the hole enough. I always see Derozan driving to the net, quite a bit considering hes going up against NBA defense which is giving him the shot and taking away the drive, I must be watching the wrong 1/2 of the schedule.

If it were only so easy, the fans would be happy.

Uhhh... Bosh was among the league leaders in FTAs for a few seasons when he was here with us.

He definitely went to the hole. You're right though in that it's a pretty rare thing to see from someone in a Raps uni.

Derozen is the guy in the white, Wade, LBJ, Carmello ect. is the guy in the red.

NBA Ref "Offensive foul! Red ball"

Thats what most calls look like when we play these guys.
