DeRozan working hard on getting bigger and better

Quote:
"Having a year under my belt playing in the league, knowing what they're expecting, knowing what I have to do -- it just raised my confidence level that much higher," DeRozan said. "I feel more comfortable. ... The game just comes easy. I know what to do now on both ends -- the defensive end and the offensive end -- so it just made the game easy."

It's not just mental, though; DeRozan has also done a lot of work on his game and body. After playing last season at "around 210, 215 pounds," he said he now weighs "almost 225 pounds," thanks to time spent in the weight room and learning how to eat better.

"I've got a nutritionist now," he said. "[I'm] learning how to eat and how to gain weight the right way -- little stuff, little stuff I didn't know about last year."

Already one of the most athletic players in the game, he hopes the added bulk will pay dividends in "being able to post up more ... getting to the basket and being able to finish, take contact."

Losing Bosh may have lowered expectations for the Raptors this coming season, but that hasn't stopped DeRozan's drive to improve, nor eliminated the potential for him to play a starring role for the team going forward.

"I think I'm ready to take on the obstacles, to really help my team out," he said. "I'm trying to prove it out here. [i] just want to step up my game next season. ... I'm in the gym every day, every day, trying to get it in, trying to get better every day. ... I think the players that were here last year, they want to take on that same challenge. I think we will.

Based on the work ethic, I can see demar becoming a VERY solid player in this game.

Kid just loves to play and he strives to get better. He is still at least one year away but the outcome is going to be very good.

HIm at 225 is kinda scary considering Bosh used to weigh about that. From what i've seen in SL he still has the hops, so this should really help with getting to the rim. Excited!

It's pretty hilarious that some of these comments come out of Derozan after one season and it took Bosh 6 to say them....

I really like that he's not all about getting right to the rim, but looks really good, and in control, around the rim in general. His game looks much more well-rounded than just being about dunks.

I'd like to see him use that size to get into the rebounding mix a little bit.

It excites me that demar isn't wasting any time. he knows the athleticism won't be there forever and i like that he's attacking his weaknesses now. hopefully he can turn them into strengths, all the greats do.

another year under the belt to get that jumpshot tightened up and see how team defenses react to him that way, and i think we'll really start to see what have in demar.

Great to hear. If the game is easier for him he should average 12-15ppg?? Lol. Oh and he said he learned to eat better, wonder what he ate at Roscoe's chicken and waffles? Lol

Awesome. He's got the right attitude and confidence that the Raps NEED. Without the Bosh-like ego.

exactly. All of our 'star' players were refreshing and had the right attitude when they first came in. then around year 5 something tends to happen in their heads.

Good point.

Alright... no matter how good he gets, let's not kiss hiss ass too much! Maybe the ego is preventable.

Anyway -
