Raptors Derozan replacing Jennings in dunk contest

Quote:
DeMar DeRozan will reportedly replace Brandon Jennings in the 2011 NBA All-Star Dunk Contest, as Jennings will be scratched due to injury. Posted by Ben Golliver.

Back in December, Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings suffered a foot fracture that required surgery. So it was a bit of a surprise when, in early January, Jennings was named one of four participants in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, along with Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, Washington Wizards center JaVale McGee and Oklahoma City Thunder big man Serge Ibaka.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday night that Jennings will be a scratch due to his injury and that he will be replaced by Toronto Raptors forward DeMar DeRozan.
The N.B.A. will add DeMar DeRozan to the slam dunk competition, which will be held during All-Star weekend. He will assume the spot vacated by Brandon Jennings, who is returning from a fractured left foot. DeRozanís selection is expected to be announced on Thursday.
When news of the Dunk Contest participants broke a few weeks ago, DeRozan tweeted, "Dang! I'm not in the dunk contest this year?" Apparently, wishes really do come true sometimes.

DeRozan is your prototypical slam dunk contest participant, an explosive-leaping, high-flying, hard-finishing athletic wing. He finished second in the 2010 NBA dunk contest, losing to Nate Robinson, then of the New York Knicks and now of the Boston Celtics.

In the final round of last year's contest, DeRozan caught and finished an alleyoop one-handed while jumping over a teammate. He also took off from near the free throw line and threw down with two hands.

not a good move if he had a choice.

ASG in LA, Blake is going to be the overwhelming favourite. I'm just not sure DeMar has many more tricks up his sleeve

I think its a good move. Even if doesn't win he gets to go LA and have fun and be on TV. Nothing terrible about that. Now if he wins.................

It's the first of the articles in the main section of NBA.com as of 7:20 this morning. DD replaces Jennings in the dunk contest. A reason to watch anyways.

i think it's great for Demar. Let's remember that last year he was injured leading up to the contest and there was a chance that he wouldn't be able to partake. He did say that the injury kept him from trying some stuff he really had planned.

I'm looking forward to it.

Hell it will be the only part of allstar weekend i will watch.

DeMar in LA is a good choice - it's his hometown and I don't know if you noticed how much attention Deron Williams and to a certain extent Bosh got last year in Dallas. He also has last years experience to build on, while the others don't really know what to expect.

I think this will be the best dunk contest in years. Griffin, McGee and Derozan will put on a show... Maybe Ibeka will surprise me.

I'm leary of having three PF/C's in the dunk contest? I don't care how much hops they have, watching a guy that tall dunk usually isn't that exciting, but who knows...

yea but do you really want to go in the dunk off and lose twice?

I would be more happier if it was his first appearance

I really don't see Blake being any sort of trickster when it comes to dunking, hence why I still won't even bother watching this.

Why?

Shawn Kemp entered and lost four times, Clyde Drexler five times, Nique three times...even Dwight Howard has lost twice. At the end of the day, people only usually remember who won, not who lost.
